About the role

This is a senior management position reporting directly to the Owner. You will take overall responsibility for the manufacturing operation behind 11 retail bakery stores and a wholesale arm business. This role is about much more than managing today's production.

You will take ownership of the entire manufacturing operation, lead your people, improve systems and help build a more effective and scalable business. You will understand what actions need to be taken and managed to impact the bottom line. You will interact with store managers and wholesale customers, work directly with the Owner, and have significant responsibility for the performance and future development of the manufacturing business.

This is a role for someone who wants to run an operation, not simply supervise a production shift.

Key responsibilities

- Build and lead a strong production team of approximately 35 production employees

- Improve manufacturing systems

- Reduce waste and unnecessary labour costs

- Improve product quality and consistency

- Develop new products

- Strengthen food safety and operational systems

- Manage recruitment, training and performance management

- Manage rostering and labour costs





- Oversee production efficiency, food safety and HACCP quality systems, and OH&S;

- Manage purchasing and stock control

About you

- Experienced food manufacturing or bakery operations leader

- Accountable — takes responsibility for their actions

- Organised — able to manage a multi-product manufacturing operation

- Decisive — prepared to make operational decisions

- Improvement focused — constantly asks, 'How can we do this better?'

- Strong finance and costing understanding

- Great communicator and good with people

- Prepared to take the business to a next step where opportunities for production improvement abound

- IT experience would be beneficial

About us

We are an established, privately owned bakery business with 11 retail stores, a central manufacturing bakery in Beverley and a wholesale operation. With annual revenue of approximately $12 million and a manufacturing team of around 35 employees, we are looking for an experienced Production & Operations Manager to take overall responsibility for our manufacturing operation.
