Where you’ll be working

You will join the paediatric service of a major regional referral hospital in South Australia, working as a senior member of the junior medical staff with a level of autonomy aligned to Advanced Training in Paediatrics. The role covers inpatient and outpatient care, from initial assessment and investigation through to discharge and follow-up, with supervision that steps back as your confidence grows.

The case mix is broad and complex: child protection, developmental assessment through the Child Development Unit, paediatric mental health, rehabilitation, nutrition and trauma care. You will also respond to acutely unwell children and neonates as part of the state’s retrieval network, which gives valuable stabilisation and transfer experience that is harder to come by in metropolitan posts. Formal teaching sessions and clinical meetings are scheduled into the role, and you will work closely with nursing, allied health and community services to manage children in the context of their families and local support. Where you’ll be living The hospital is based in a regional city in south east South Australia, roughly midway between Adelaide and Melbourne, with regular direct flights to both capitals taking a little over an hour. Housing is considerably more affordable than in either capital, and the city offers a good choice of public and independent schools, along with TAFE and university campuses. As the main service centre for the region, it has employment across health, education, agriculture and forestry, which is useful for partners. Weekends can be spent at surf and swimming beaches, fishing or sailing along the coast, walking in national parks or visiting renowned wine regions within a short drive. There is a robust local food and coffee culture, active sporting clubs and music groups,



and the relaxed pace of a close community.

Salary

This position is classified as MDP2 under the current South Australian salaried medical officers agreement, with a base salary of $107,655 to $158,523 per annum depending on experience, plus 12% superannuation. Leave loading, paid overtime and on-call payments apply, along with a professional development allowance of up to $10,000 for eligible doctors in accredited training and access to salary packaging. Relocation reimbursement of up to $13,000 may be available.

The estimated total package is $122,000 to $190,000 per annum, before overtime and on-call earnings.

Requirements

Current registration with the Medical Board of Australia (AHPRA) with minimum Level 2 supervision requirements, OR eligibility for registration via the Competent Authority Pathway.

*Please note doctors seeking their first position in Australia via the Standard Pathway or doctors with current registration and Level 1 supervision requirements cannot be considered at this time.
