Part-Time Delivery Drivers (AKA legal bread traffickers)
2 permanent part-time positions | 30 hrs/week (5 × 6-hour shifts) | Hourly rate per the award, plus early-morning and weekend penalties
Based at our bakery in O’Connor, this is an active, early-morning role with 3am starts. You’ll enjoy quiet roads, plenty of movement and the satisfaction of helping our customers start their day with fresh bread.
We supply bread, pies, pastries, scrolls and more to about 50 of Perth’s best cafés, restaurants, bars and shops. We have three vehicles on the road, seven days a week: two brand-new Renault vans and a workhorse Hyundai chiller truck.
We’re looking for two reliable “bread winners” to join our driving team in permanent part time roles of 30 hours a week. Each role has a fixed roster of 5 early-morning shifts, starting at 3am and finishing around 9am:
- Position 1: Friday to Tuesday
- Position 2: Thursday to Monday
It’s the same days and the same hours every week, so you can plan your life around it and enjoy your afternoons. The key parts of the job
On the road
✓ Load your crates and check every order against the dockets before you leave. Getting it right at the dock saves a lot of apologising later.
✓ Run your route safely and on time across the Perth metro area. We use clever software for routing and tracking, but we also believe local knowledge (think London cabbie “knowledge”) is just as good as what computers know.
✓ Present our products with care at every drop, and check deliveries for accuracy.
✓ Safely lift and carry bread crates up to 23kg, many times a morning.
With our customers
✓ Be friendly,
professional and recognisable. A good driver knows their customers by name and knows where the bread goes.
✓ Pass on what you hear: missing items, late orders, feedback, a new café opening down the road. Let the team know so we can fix it fast.
Back at base
✓ Keep your vehicle clean, tidy, set up for the job and ready for the next run.
Necessary skills and attributes
- Reliability above everything. Our customers open their doors trusting the bread will be there. Being on time, every time, is the job.
- Early mornings are part of the deal. The driving team starts at 3am. Don’t let that scare you off: your day is your own by 9am.
- A positive, get-it-done attitude. We’re a very busy but still small family business, and we all get in and do what’s needed. When things go wrong, we find a way to laugh through it and get better tomorrow. When our systems don’t work as they should, we fix them so the same thing doesn’t happen again.
Previous delivery experience helps but isn’t essential. We’ll train someone with the right attitude and a safe, responsible approach to driving. Before you apply, make sure you can tick most, if not all, of these:
- You have a current manual driver’s licence (a truck licence is a bonus but not necessary)
- You have your own transport to get to O’Connor for a 3am start
- You can commit to one of the two fixed rosters, including weekends
- You know your way around the Perth metro area
- You’re physically fit and comfortable loading and unloading crates up to 23kg
- You’re organised, detail-focused and happy working independently
- You’re well presented, friendly and like talking to people
- You have working rights in Australia
- You love food (it helps)
What we offer
- A permanent part-time job with a fixed weekly roster
- Paid annual leave and personal leave
- Hourly pay per the award, including penalty rates for early starts and weekends
- Training and support from an experienced team
- Room to learn and grow with us
- Staff discounts across our venues: Big Loaf Shop, North Street Store and Wards Central Dining
If this sounds like you, hit Apply and answer a few quick questions. We’ll be in touch fast.
