We’re partnering with a global technology, consulting and engineering business that works with critical infrastructure operators across energy, gas and water. They’re growing their AI & Data practice and are looking for a Senior AI Engineer to design and build production agentic AI solutions for Australian utilities. This is a great opportunity for someone who wants to stay hands-on while setting the technical direction for a growing team.

You’ll be the most senior hands-on engineer in the practice, leading the technical work on client engagements and setting the engineering standards the rest of the team builds to. The solutions go into real operational environments, including field safety, asset performance and customer operations, so they need to be grounded, tested, secure and explainable.

This is a build role. Success is measured by working software that clients actually use, not by slide decks.

What you’ll be doing

- Designing and building agentic AI solutions on Microsoft Foundry, including orchestration, memory, escalation logic and guardrails
- Building multi-agent workflows with AutoGen, Semantic Kernel or the Microsoft Agent Framework, integrated with Logic Apps, Durable Functions and Power Automate
- Building RAG pipelines covering chunking, vector indexes, hybrid search, grounding and citation
- Integrating AI solutions with enterprise asset management, GIS, ADMS and customer platforms, including through MCP
- Running evaluation, testing and red teaming before release, and building in logging, tracing and monitoring
- Acting as technical lead on client engagements and owning the engineering plan and delivery quality
- Setting practice standards for repository structure, code review, CI/CD, testing and documentation




- Mentoring onshore engineers and guiding an offshore delivery team
- Supporting pre-sales with working prototypes, estimates and client presentations
- Turning what’s built for one client into reusable agents, patterns and accelerators

What we’re looking for

You’ll be an experienced AI Engineer, Senior Software Engineer or ML Engineer with a robust track record of getting LLM applications into production.

Ideally, you’ll bring:

- 6 years of professional software engineering, including at least 2 years building LLM applications in production
- Hands-on experience with Microsoft Foundry (formerly Azure AI Foundry)
- Experience with at least one agent framework such as AutoGen, Semantic Kernel or the Microsoft Agent Framework
- Strong Python, with working knowledge of C# or TypeScript
- Solid RAG experience, including embeddings, vector search and grounding
- Experience with Azure Logic Apps, Durable Functions and Power Automate
- Practical experience with AI evaluation, red teaming and observability
- Good engineering discipline across Git, automated testing, CI/CD and infrastructure as code
- The ability to explain technical decisions clearly to non-technical stakeholders
- Experience in energy, utilities or critical infrastructure, Databricks, or utility systems such as SAP, Maximo or GIS would be highly regarded

We’d be particularly interested in people who have consulting experience or have led engineers across onshore and offshore teams.
