A broader remit. Complex projects. The prospect to influence delivery.
For an experienced Project Manager, the next step isn't always about taking on a bigger project.
Sometimes it's about having a broader influence, supporting other project teams, strengthening commercial outcomes and helping multiple projects perform at their best.
Your new organisation operates across civil contracting, bulk earthmoving and infrastructure, delivering projects spanning roads, drainage, major earthworks and specialised landfill infrastructure.
With multiple service capabilities and an established operational base, the business needs strong project leadership to maintain performance across its portfolio.
They're looking for a Senior Project Manager who can bring together commercial oversight, program performance and people leadership.
Someone who can see the bigger picture, identify risks early, support Project Managers through challenges and help drive consistent outcomes across the business.
It's an opportunity to move beyond the day-to-day management of individual projects and have a broader influence on how work is planned, managed and delivered.
If you're ready to broaden your remit and help drive performance across a portfolio of projects, this could be worth a conversation.
About the role
Reporting to the Construction Manager, you'll provide oversight across assigned projects, acting as the link between senior leadership and the teams responsible for delivery.
Your focus will be on maintaining visibility across project performance, supporting Project Managers and ensuring issues are identified, addressed and escalated where needed.
You'll be responsible for
- Overseeing project programs, budgets, resourcing and delivery plans across your portfolio, ensuring projects remain on track and recovery plans are implemented when required.
- Reviewing financial forecasts, cost reports, claims, variations, procurement commitments and margin movements, identifying emerging risks and opportunities.
- Monitoring project performance and contractual obligations, ensuring delays,
risks and variations are appropriately documented and managed.
- Coaching Project Managers and engineering staff, clarify accountability and support capability development, resource planning and succession.
- Reviewing WHS, environmental and quality performance across projects, ensuring compliance requirements are met and corrective actions are followed through.
- Maintaining strong working relationships with key clients, consultants and subcontractors, supporting complex negotiations and performance discussions.
- Driving consistency in project controls, reporting and delivery standards, identifying opportunities to improve processes and share lessons learned.
- You'll need to be comfortable looking at the detail while maintaining a clear view of the overall portfolio, knowing when to provide guidance, when to challenge and when to step in to help get things back on track.
You and your alignment You'll be an experienced project delivery professional with the commercial understanding and leadership capability to influence outcomes beyond your own projects.
You know how to assess project performance, identify emerging risks and work with Project Managers to develop practical solutions.
You're confident having conversations about performance and accountability, but understand that getting the best out of people also means providing support, direction and development.
You'll ideally bring
- Significant project management experience within civil construction, civil contracting or a similar construction environment.
- Experience overseeing major or complex projects, with an understanding of how to manage performance across multiple projects.
- Strong commercial acumen, including experience reviewing budgets, forecasts, margins, claims and variations.
- A solid understanding of project programming, contractual requirements, risk management and recovery planning.
- Experience leading, mentoring or developing Project Managers, engineers or other project delivery personnel.
- A strong understanding of WHS, environmental, quality and project assurance requirements.
- Confident communication skills and the ability to build productive relationships with senior leaders, clients and delivery teams.
You'll also bring a measured, solutions-focused approach. You're comfortable holding people accountable, but you understand the value of collaboration and creating an environment where project teams can perform at their best.
