About the Role

Technology drives our business forward, and we’re proud to have our own creative and practical in-house IT and technology teams. We’re seeking a Senior Software Engineer who wants to make a real impact.

You’ll help design, build and evolve the technology behind our growing national operations, from our real-time online platform and live stock visibility to the systems supporting our distribution centres, offices and customer experience.

Your Responsibilities

- Design, develop and maintain scalable applications, APIs and integrations.
- Contribute to software architecture, technical decisions and engineering best practices.
- Write clean, maintainable and well tested code.
- Deploy and support production applications, including ongoing maintenance and upgrades.
- Optimise databases, troubleshoot complex issues and improve system performance.




- Work with teams across the business to turn operational requirements into practical solutions.

What You’ll Bring

Substantial hands on experience building and maintaining production systems, with strong skills in:

- Python - backend development, APIs, integrations, automation and database access.
- PostgreSQL - database design, SQL, indexing and query optimisation.
- Docker - containerisation, Docker Compose, networking and persistent storage.
- Git & Linux - collaborative development, version control, and supporting and troubleshooting production systems.

Experience with the following would also be highly regarded:
- TimescaleDB - time-series data management within PostgreSQL.
- MongoDB - document modelling, querying, indexing and aggregation.
- Redis - caching, session management and performance optimisation.
- Dokploy - deploying and managing Docker applications.
- Nginx & uWSGI - reverse proxying, TLS and Python application serving where required.
- ElectricSQL / Electric - synchronising PostgreSQL data with client applications.

You take ownership of your work, communicate clearly and bring a proactive, practical approach to solving problems. You’re comfortable collaborating with technical colleagues and stakeholders across the business.
