About Barayamal
Barayamal supports First Nations entrepreneurship in Australia through programs, resources, mentoring and practical support.
Role overview
Barayamal is looking for a volunteer Software Architect to help shape practical software architecture, integrations and technical decisions for digital tools that support our programs and operations. This is an unpaid volunteer role with no fixed minimum hours. Volunteers choose what they can reasonably contribute, and tasks are agreed around availability. This remote volunteer chance is intended for people who currently live in Australia.
What you may help with
Review existing systems and suggest simple, maintainable architecture improvements. Design API, integration, database or deployment approaches for agreed projects. Document technical decisions so future volunteers can understand and maintain the work. Join occasional remote check-ins when mutually convenient.
Preferred experience
Software architecture, backend systems, APIs or cloud design experience preferred. Ability to explain technical options clearly to non-technical stakeholders. Ability to communicate clearly, work independently on agreed tasks, and use technology to support First Nations entrepreneurship and community impact.
Eligibility and expectations
You currently live in Australia. You understand this is an unpaid volunteer role, not a paid employment position. There are no fixed minimum hours, required shifts, mandatory attendance requirements or penalties for absence. Contributions are flexible and agreed around the volunteer's availability. Volunteers can pause or step back if circumstances change, with reasonable notice where possible.
