Makodah Care
Newcastle
Real People. Real Care. Real Difference.
Lived experience is at the heart of Makodah Care. Our team understands the sector from many sides as participants, parents, and service leaders. We know what it means to search for the right support, to place your trust in a provider and to expect more than promises. That understanding shapes how we listen, the relationships we build and every decision we make.
We created Makodah Care to provide the kind of support we would want for our own family reliable, skilled, respectful and shaped around each person’s choices, goals and the life they want to live.
As Makodah Care continues to grow, we are looking for a values aligned Business Development Manager who can build genuine relationships and create sustainable opportunities without losing sight of the people behind every referral.
About the role
You will help Makodah Care grow ethically by developing trusted relationships with support coordinators, allied health professionals, hospitals, community organisations, families and other sector stakeholders.
You will identify opportunities that are a genuine fit for Makodah Care’s capabilities and work closely with our Directors and operational team before making any commitments.
Success in this position means more than meeting targets. It means building a strong reputation, communicating honestly and ensuring every prospective participant is treated with dignity, choice and respect.
Your key responsibilities
You will:
- Develop and maintain an ethical, sustainable business development strategy.
- Build genuine relationships with referral partners and community stakeholders.
- Identify and qualify suitable participant and service opportunities.
- Arrange and conduct stakeholder meetings, presentations and networking activities.
- Maintain accurate CRM, lead and referral pipeline records.
- Prepare proposals, forecasts and monthly business development reports.
- Respond to enquiries professionally and within agreed timeframes.
- Coordinate with operations before promising service capacity or commencement dates.
- Support a clear,
respectful and person centred participant onboarding experience.
- Represent Makodah Care accurately at events, meetings and community activities.
- Protect participant privacy, choice and control.
- Follow NDIS requirements, the NDIS Code of Conduct and Makodah Care policies.
- Disclose and appropriately manage any actual, potential or perceived conflicts of interest.
What we value
Our values guide both the supports we provide and the way we work together:
- Respect: We ask before we act. It is the participant’s home, body, money and life.
- Honesty: We say what we can and cannot do, and we take responsibility when something goes wrong.
- Consistency: We follow through on our commitments and build dependable relationships.
- Skill: We prepare properly, keep learning and never assume competence.
- Safety: We speak up early and never place growth ahead of a participant’s wellbeing.
We are looking for someone who can demonstrate these values through their decisions not simply repeat them.
About you
You will be a strong relationship builder who understands that trust is earned through honest communication, reliability and follow-through.
Ideally, you will bring:
- Extensive Experience in business development, stakeholder engagement, partnerships or referral based growth.
- Knowledge of the NDIS, disability, health or community services sector.
- An established or developing network across the Hunter, Newcastle, Lake Macquarie, Port Stephens or Central Coast.
- Strong written, verbal and presentation skills.
- Confidence using CRM systems and maintaining accurate records.
- The ability to assess whether an opportunity is appropriate, sustainable and within organisational capacity.
- Sound judgement and a commitment to ethical business-development practices.
- The ability to work independently while remaining closely connected with the operational team.
- Robust organisational, planning and reporting skills.
Lived experience of disability, caring, accessing supports or navigating the NDIS will be valued. It is not a requirement, and we recognise that each person chooses whether and how they share their lived experience.
Essential requirements
The successful applicant must have, or be willing and eligible to obtain:
- A current Australian driver licence and access to a suitable insured vehicle.
- Relevant NDIS worker screening and employment checks.
- The legal right to work in Australia.
- Any additional clearances required for the duties performed.
What Makodah Care offers
- A permanent part time position working 24 hours per week.
- A relationship focused role with genuine scope to influence our growth.
- Direct access to the Directors and involvement in key decisions.
- Base remuneration, superannuation and a transparent performance-based commission structure.
- A supportive, family-run workplace where ideas and honest feedback are welcomed.
- The opportunity to help grow an organisation that places people, quality and safety ahead of numbers.
- Work that creates meaningful connections between people seeking support and a team committed to providing it well.
