WHS ADVISOR / WHS OFFICER – GROW YOUR SAFETY CAREER

Adelaide SA | Full-time or Part-time | Flexible work options | Salary aligned to experience

Got a couple of years in WHS and know you’re capable of more? Or already working as an advisor and looking for greater variety? We want to hear from you.

At Work Life Safety Systems (WLSS), we don’t treat safety like a box-ticking exercise.

We work directly with employers, business owners, managers, supervisors and workers across Adelaide and South Australia to make Work Health and Safety practical, understandable and useful.

Our team supports businesses with WHS advice, risk management, compliance systems, workplace inspections, SWMS, incident investigations, procedures, training, presentations and practical workplace safety improvements.

This role would suit an experienced WHS Advisor, WHS Officer, Safety Advisor, HSE Advisor, WHS Coordinator or Safety Coordinator — but we are equally interested in someone earlier in their WHS career who has built solid foundations and is ready to step up.

For us, attitude matters more than having every box already ticked.

If you take ownership, communicate well, ask good questions, care about getting things right and genuinely want to improve your craft, we can help you build the rest.

Why this role stands out

- Work directly with businesses on real WHS and compliance issues

- Gain exposure to a wide variety of industries and workplace risk profiles

- Build experience across higher-risk and operational environments

- Develop your skills across inspections, risk, systems, incidents and training

- Deliver toolbox talks, presentations and practical WHS education

- Work with a team that values initiative, judgment and ownership

- Ongoing mentoring, development and WHS/compliance training

- Full-time or part-time options with flexible work arrangements

What you’ll be doing

You’ll support WLSS clients with practical Work Health and Safety and WHS compliance advice, including:

- Conducting workplace inspections and compliance reviews

- Completing and reviewing risk assessments

- Developing and reviewing SWMS / Safe Work Method Statements

- Developing safe work procedures and workplace safety documentation

- Supporting incident reporting and incident investigations

- Helping clients manage corrective actions and follow-up activities

- Developing and maintaining WHS management systems

- Delivering toolbox talks, inductions, WHS presentations and training

- Consulting with employers, managers, supervisors and workers

- Supporting businesses operating in high-risk work environments

- Helping clients understand their WHS duties and turn them into practical actions

- Supporting positive workplace safety culture through consultation, communication and education

This role is not about walking into a workplace and simply telling people what they are doing wrong.

It is about understanding the business, understanding the risk and helping people find a reasonable,

practical and compliant solution that actually works.

What we’re looking for

We are more interested in how you think, how you communicate and the attitude you bring than whether you already know everything.

Ideally, you will have:

- Some practical experience in WHS, Safety, HSE or Compliance
- A Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety, Diploma of WHS or equivalent qualification
- A practical understanding of Australian Work Health and Safety legislation

- Experience with, or exposure to, risk assessments and risk management

- Experience developing or reviewing SWMS, procedures or safety documentation

- Exposure to workplace inspections, incident processes or corrective actions

- Strong written and verbal communication skills

- Confidence speaking with employers, managers, supervisors and workers

- Good attention to detail and the ability to follow things through

- Confidence using Microsoft 365 and other digital workplace systems

Experience in high-risk work environments such as construction, civil, manufacturing, transport, logistics, trades, plant, equipment, workshops or industrial workplaces is highly regarded.

You do not need to have done everything listed above.

If you have built good WHS foundations, have some practical workplace experience and are ready to accelerate your career, we still want to hear from you.

More important than experience

We are looking for someone who:

- Has a genuine can-do attitude

- Takes ownership of their work

- Wants to learn and continually improve

- Is comfortable asking questions when they do not know something

- Takes feedback well and applies it

- Notices the details others may miss

- Follows through on commitments

- Communicates confidently with different types of people

- Looks for solutions rather than simply identifying problems

- Wants to become excellent at what they do

- Cares about getting the right outcome for the client

You do not need to walk through the door knowing everything.

You do need to bring the attitude and effort required to keep getting better.

This role suits someone who

- Wants meaningful WHS work rather than simply processing paperwork

- Enjoys helping businesses improve

- Likes working with different clients, workplaces and industries

- Wants practical compliance rather than compliance for compliance’s sake

- Enjoys presenting, educating and influencing

- Is comfortable working directly with employers and operational teams

- Wants exposure to higher-risk work environments

- Likes variety and solving practical problems

- Takes initiative and responsibility

- Wants to build a long-term career in WHS and compliance

- Believes good safety advice should be useful, understandable and achievable

Essential requirements

- Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety, Diploma or equivalent

- Current Australian driver’s licence

- Strong written and verbal communication skills

- Ability to travel to client workplaces throughout Adelaide and South Australia

- Competency with Microsoft 365 and digital business systems

- Current National Police Check, or willingness to obtain one

A White Card is highly regarded and may be required depending on the workplaces you attend.

Highly regarded

- Exposure to construction, civil, manufacturing, transport, logistics, trades or industrial workplaces

- Experience with high-risk work activities

- Incident investigation experience

- WHS management system experience

- ISO 45001, ISO 9001 or ISO 14001 exposure

- Diploma or tertiary qualifications in WHS or a related field

- Experience delivering WHS training, inductions, toolbox talks or presentations

What’s on offer

- Full-time or part-time opportunities

- Flexible work options

- Competitive remuneration aligned to your experience

- Ongoing WHS and compliance training

- Hands-on mentoring and professional development

- Exposure to a wide range of businesses and industries

- Opportunity to build experience in high-risk work and WHS advisory

- Career growth into broader WHS, compliance and business advisory work

- Laptop, phone and tools of trade

- Vehicle or travel allowance where applicable

- Supportive, practical and down-to-earth team environment

At WLSS, we value people who take ownership, pay attention to detail, work well with others, keep learning and genuinely care about getting a valuable outcome for the client.

If that sounds like you, we’d like to hear from you.

Apply now

Please apply with your resume and a short cover letter telling us why you believe you would be a good fit for WLSS.

In your cover letter, please include:

- Your WHS, Safety, HSE or Compliance experience

- Any exposure you have had to high-risk workplaces or industries

- Your experience with risk assessments, SWMS, workplace inspections or incident processes
- The most challenging WHS or safety issue you have had to deal with, what made it difficult, what you did about it and what the outcome was

- What you learned from that experience and what you would do differently next time
- The key skills, strengths and attitude you would bring to WLSS

- What you still want to learn or become better at

- Why this role appeals to you and why you believe you would be the right fit

We are not looking for a perfect answer.

We want to understand how you think, how you approach problems, how you work with people and whether you take ownership when things get difficult.

Only shortlisted applicants will be contacted.
