Technical Support & Sales Specialist – Gate Automation & Access Control

About the role

We're a growing supplier of gate automation, access control and intercom systems based in Mordialloc. We're looking for a technically minded person to be the first point of contact for customers and installers. You'll diagnose faults, recommend the right products and turn technical enquiries into sales.

This role suits someone who likes working out why something isn't working. You should be comfortable with a multimeter, a wiring diagram and a customer on the phone.

Key responsibilities

Technical support

- Troubleshoot gate motors, control boards, remotes, intercoms and access control systems over the phone, email and in store
- Work through faults step by step (power supply, wiring, limit switches, safety beams, battery backup, remote pairing and programming) and guide customers to a fix
- Test and diagnose returned or warranty units on the bench, and record the findings
- Build, configure and test product kits before dispatch (in-house training provided)
- Write and improve setup guides, FAQs and troubleshooting notes

Technical sales

- Qualify customer needs (gate type, weight, length, power availability, usage) and recommend the right motor, accessories and access control solution
- Prepare quotes, and upsell accessories such as solar kits, safety beams, keypads and intercoms where they suit the customer
- Serve customers on the shop floor and help them choose products
- Follow up on quotes and enquiries to convert sales
- Provide freight costings, book deliveries and supply tracking details

General

- Help with picking, packing and dispatch during busy periods




- Keep product knowledge current across our brands and new releases

Skills and experience

- Solid understanding of electrical and electronic fundamentals: AC/DC, voltage, current, resistance, low-voltage control circuits, relays and inputs/outputs
- A logical, diagnostic mindset: you isolate the problem rather than guess
- Confident using a multimeter and reading wiring diagrams and technical manuals
- Mechanical aptitude, and confident with hand and power tools
- Clear communicator who can explain technical issues in plain English to homeowners, and in detail to installers
- Good computer skills (email, ERP/e-commerce systems, quoting)

Highly regarded

- Trade or technical background (electrical, electronics, security, automation, or an apprenticeship or cert in a related field)
- Experience with gate automation, garage doors, CCTV, access control or intercoms
- Previous technical support, trade counter or technical sales experience

- Punctual and reliable, with your own car and a current driver's licence
- Able to lift heavy items (gate motors and components)
- Strong work ethic and willingness to learn
- No criminal record (required for the security industry)

Schedule and pay

Monday to Friday, 8am to 4pm

- Initial period: casual employment for up to 3 months at $35 per hour
- Permanent full-time role: after a successful initial period, the position converts to $68,250 p.a. + super

The casual period lets both parties make sure the role is the right fit. Strong performers may be offered permanent employment sooner.
