VeiraMal Consulting is seeking an experienced and motivated Deck and Fishing Hands to join our client's business Cull Fisheries Pty Ltd located in Portarlington. Our client offers a professional working environment and an opportunity for the right candidate.

Key Duties:

- Preparing fishing gear, baiting lines and nets, and setting longlines, nets, pots and traps into position.
- Hauling and retrieving fishing gear, including lines, nets, hooks, floats and beacons, and removing fish and other marine life.
- Untangling, repairing and maintaining fishing equipment, including mending nets, lines and traps.
- Sorting, cleaning, processing, preserving, icing, refrigerating and storing catches, including gutting, washing and preparing fish for storage.
- Unloading fish and other marine products and transferring catches to designated storage areas.
- Handling ropes and wires, operating mooring equipment, and assisting with berthing, unberthing and mooring the vessel.
- Standing lookout watches at sea and adjusting the vessel’s course as directed by the Ship’s Master.
- Assisting with vessel and cargo operations, including stowing and securing cargo, equipment and catches.
- Deploying and retrieving satellite and radio beacons as required.
- Patrolling the vessel to ensure the safety of the vessel, crew, passengers and cargo.
- Performing routine maintenance and inspections of deck equipment, rigging, cargo gear,



and lifesaving and firefighting appliances.
- Cleaning, scraping, sanding and painting vessel surfaces, splicing ropes, and cleaning and disinfecting decks, fish holds, bait tanks and other vessel areas.
- Assisting the Ship’s Master with crew training and meal preparation as required.
- Performing other reasonable duties within the employee’s skills and abilities to support the safe and effective operation of the fishing vessel.

Key Requirements:

- Holding a Basic Safety Training Certificate or equivalent.
- Holding a Medical Emergency, First Aid Certificate.
- Having at least 3 years of experience as a Deck Hand or Fishing Hand on a fishing vessel, supported by documented sea service in a seafarer’s book (sea book).
- Demonstrating knowledge of commercial fishing operations, fishing gear, catch handling and storage procedures.
- Having the ability to perform physically demanding duties and work effectively as part of a vessel crew.
- Following safety procedures and instructions from the Ship’s Master and shore management.

Salary: $71,481.00 + Super per year
