Come and Be Part of Something Special at Freedom Hill Sanctuary
Have you ever thought about volunteering with rescued farm animals and making a real difference in their lives?
At Freedom Hill Sanctuary, every animal has a story. Some have come from neglect, others have been abandoned, and many arrived needing urgent care, kindness and a second chance at life.
Established in 2011, Freedom Hill Sanctuary is South Australia’s first and largest farm animal sanctuary. Situated on 200 acres at Monarto South, we provide a safe, loving home for over 300 rescued animals, including sheep, cows, goats, pigs, horses, ponies, donkeys and our feathered friends.
We are looking for kind, caring and reliable people to join our Sunday volunteer family.
What does volunteering involve?
There is never a dull moment at Freedom Hill, and with so many animals depending on us, there is always something needing to be done.
Our volunteers help with:
● Preparing and distributing animal feeds
● Cleaning shelters, bedding and animal enclosures
● Replenishing water and hay
● Keeping animal areas clean, safe and comfortable
● General sanctuary maintenance and tidying
● Supporting our experienced team with daily animal care
● Helping with other jobs as they arise
What are we looking for?
You don’t need previous experience working with farm animals. We can teach you what you need to know.
What matters most is that you have compassion, patience, reliability and a willingness to get involved.
We won’t pretend sanctuary life is all cuddling lambs and patting cows. There are dirty jobs, muddy boots, plenty of cleaning and sometimes physically demanding work.
But there are also moments that make every bit of effort worthwhile.
Watching an animal who once knew fear learn to trust again, seeing a rescued lamb grow stronger or simply knowing that the animals have clean beds, full bellies and a protected place to call home.
Why volunteer with us?
Volunteering at Freedom Hill is about more than giving your time.
It’s about becoming part of a family of people who believe every life matters, making friendships, learning new skills and experiencing firsthand the wonderful personalities of rescued farm animals.
Most importantly, you will go home knowing that your kindness has made a genuine difference.
When do we volunteer?
Our main volunteer day is Sunday, commencing at 10am.
New volunteers attend an orientation session and are introduced to the sanctuary, our residents and the duties involved.
We appreciate people who can offer their time regularly, as consistency is important for our animals and our team.
If you have a little time, a caring heart and a willingness to roll up your sleeves, we would love to hear from you.
