Job Description
THAI UNION SERVICES PTY LIMITED THAI UNION SERVICES PTY LIMITED, trading as Zaab Zaab, located in Traralgon, Victoria, is currently seeking an experienced and skilled Chef to join our busy restaurant.
The successful applicant will be required to work efficiently in a fast-paced commercial kitchen, preparing and presenting high-quality meals consistently in accordance with the restaurant's established standards, recipes, and food safety requirements.

Task & responsibilities
Preparing, cooking and presenting dishes to the required standard
Preparing ingredients, sauces, stocks, marinades and other components required for service
Cooking food using a range of techniques including grilling, frying, sauteing, etc.
Monitoring the quality of dishes throughout preparation, cooking and presentation
Ensuring consistency in food quality, portioning, taste and presentation
Ensuring all meals are prepared and served within required service timeframes
Collaborating with the director to plan and develop recipes and menus, considering factors such as seasonal availability of ingredients, the number of patrons at a booked event, portion size, etc in accordance with the business requirements
Estimating food and labour costs and assisting with food cost control or portion-control requirements to maintain budgetary targets of the business
Maintaining and monitoring appropriate stock levels and minimising food wastage
Monitoring food supplies and assisting with ordering ingredients and kitchen supplies
Checking the quantity and quality of received products to ensure that the items, ingredients and other products are ordered in a timely manner, and standards are met




Maintaining appropriate food storage, labelling and stock rotation procedures
Freezing, preserving and storing food products where required
Ensuring food preparation and handling practices comply with applicable food safety and hygiene requirements
Instructing and training other kitchen workers in the preparation, cooking, garnishing, and presentation, etc of food, demonstrating appropriate cooking techniques and providing guidance to kitchen staff regarding cooking procedures
Maintaining a clean, organised, and hygienic kitchen and food preparation area and monitoring and enforcing sanitation practices to ensure that employees are following standards and regulations
Assisting with the selection, training and supervision of junior kitchen staff where required
Inspecting equipment, work areas and general supplies to ensure conformance to established health and safety standards
Working effectively with other kitchen and hospitality staff and contributing to a positive and skilled kitchen environment
Performing other duties reasonably associated, as required
Qualification & experience
A relevant Associate Degree, Advanced Diploma or Diploma, or equivalent qualification
A minimum of 1 year of full-time work experience as a Chef, preferably in a commercial kitchen or a restaurant
A demonstrated knowledge of food preparation, cooking techniques, food presentation, and kitchen operations
Knowledge of food safety, hygiene, and workplace health and safety requirements
Ability to plan and organise food preparation and kitchen activities
Ability to work efficiently under pressure in a busy kitchen environment
Ability to maintain consistent standards of food quality and presentation
Good communication and teamwork skills
