Role Description The Excavator Operator is a full time, on-site role based in Newcastle, NSW. The role involves operating excavators and other heavy equipment to perform excavation, trenching, backfilling, and site preparation tasks according to project plans and safety standards. Day-to-day duties include reading and following site instructions, safely maneuvering machinery around workers and obstacles, maintaining accurate grades and levels, and supporting pipe laying and utility installation. The Excavator Operator will also carry out basic equipment checks, report maintenance needs, and collaborate with supervisors and crew members to meet project deadlines.



Adherence to workplace health and safety procedures and respectful communication are essential parts of this role.
Qualifications
Candidates should possess strong skills in Equipment Operation and Heavy Equipment handling, with proven experience operating excavators on civil construction sites.
Candidates should possess practical Excavation and Trench work skills, including safe digging around services and maintaining correct depths, slopes, and trench stability.
Candidates should possess basic Equipment Maintenance skills, including conducting pre-start checks, identifying faults, and reporting or assisting with minor repairs.
Construction industry experience, current relevant tickets or licenses for excavator operation, and a valid driver’s license are highly beneficial.
Knowledge of workplace health and safety requirements, ability to follow site instructions, and capacity to work collaboratively in a diverse team environment are important.
Reliable attendance, solid situational awareness, and willingness to assist with general laboring when required are valued for this position.
