Shield Wall Systems of Florida (SWS) is seeking an experienced Light Gauge Steel (LGS) / Cold-Formed Steel (CFS) Estimator & Procurement Specialist to join our growing team in Melbourne, Florida.
This is a specialized position.
Previous hands-on estimating experience with light-gauge/cold-formed steel construction is required.
The ideal candidate understands LGS systems from plans and specifications through estimating, material takeoffs, supplier pricing and procurement. This individual will play an important role in helping SWS accurately price projects, maintain current material costs and transition awarded projects from estimating into purchasing.
Responsibilities
Review architectural, structural and construction documents for LGS/CFS scope
Perform detailed quantity and material takeoffs
Develop accurate estimates for light-gauge steel projects
Calculate steel quantities, components, accessories and related material requirements
Prepare and review Bills of Materials (BOMs)
Review project specifications, details and scope requirements
Identify missing information, scope gaps and potential estimating risks
Request and obtain pricing from manufacturers, distributors and suppliers
Compare supplier quotations, lead times and purchasing options
Maintain current supplier and material pricing
Assist with material purchasing for awarded projects
Prepare purchase requirements and coordinate material orders with operations
Monitor material availability and lead times
Develop and maintain supplier relationships
Compare estimated material requirements against actual project purchasing
Assist management with value engineering and cost-saving opportunities




Maintain organized estimating and procurement records
Help continuously improve SWS estimating, costing and procurement processes
Required Experience
Light Gauge Steel (LGS) / Cold-Formed Steel (CFS) experience is required
Previous estimating experience involving LGS/CFS systems
Strong ability to read architectural and structural construction drawings
Experience performing detailed material takeoffs
Understanding of LGS framing components, gauges, sizes, accessories and applications
Understanding of material costing and supplier quotations
Strong Excel and computer skills
Excellent attention to detail and numerical accuracy
Ability to manage multiple estimates and projects simultaneously
Strong communication and organizational skills
Experience
Experience with one or more of the following is highly desirable:
Panelized LGS systems
LGS wall panels
Floor and roof systems
Trusses and joists
Steel fabrication or manufacturing
Material purchasing/procurement
Supplier and manufacturer negotiations
Estimating/takeoff software
Bluebeam
Material optimization
BOM development
Residential and commercial LGS construction
What We'Re Looking For
We are looking for someone who understands that estimating is more than producing a number.
The right person should be able to look at a set of plans, understand the LGS scope, determine what materials are required, obtain and evaluate current supplier pricing, build an accurate estimate and help transition an awarded project into procurement.
This position will work closely with SWS leadership, operations, manufacturing, suppliers and project teams.
Applicants without Light Gauge Steel / Cold-Formed Steel experience will not be considered.
