Shield Wall Systems of Florida (SWS) is seeking an experienced Light Gauge Steel (LGS) / Cold-Formed Steel (CFS) Estimator & Procurement Specialist to join our growing team in Melbourne, Florida.
This is a specialized position.
Previous hands-on estimating experience with light-gauge/cold-formed steel construction is required.
The ideal candidate understands LGS systems from plans and specifications through estimating, material takeoffs, supplier pricing and procurement.
This individual will play an significant role in helping SWS accurately price projects, maintain current material costs and transition awarded projects from estimating into purchasing.
Responsibilities
Review architectural, structural and construction documents for LGS/CFS scopePerform detailed quantity and material takeoffsDevelop accurate estimates for light-gauge steel projectsCalculate steel quantities, components, accessories and related material requirementsPrepare and review Bills of Materials (BOMs)Review project specifications, details and scope requirementsIdentify missing information, scope gaps and potential estimating risksRequest and obtain pricing from manufacturers, distributors and suppliersCompare supplier quotations, lead times and purchasing optionsMaintain current supplier and material pricingAssist with material purchasing for awarded projectsPrepare purchase requirements and coordinate material orders with operationsMonitor material availability and lead timesDevelop and maintain supplier relationshipsCompare estimated material requirements against actual project purchasingAssist management with value engineering and cost-saving opportunitiesMaintain organized estimating and procurement recordsHelp continuously improve SWS estimating, costing and procurement processes
Required Experience
Light Gauge Steel (LGS) / Cold-Formed Steel (CFS) experience is requiredPrevious estimating experience involving LGS/CFS systemsStrong ability to read architectural and structural construction drawingsExperience performing detailed material takeoffsUnderstanding of LGS framing components, gauges, sizes, accessories and applicationsUnderstanding of material costing and supplier quotationsStrong Excel and computer skillsExcellent attention to detail and numerical accuracyAbility to manage multiple estimates and projects simultaneouslyStrong communication and organizational skills
Experience
Experience with one or more of the following is highly desirable:
Panelized LGS systemsLGS wall panelsFloor and roof systemsTrusses and joistsSteel fabrication or manufacturingMaterial purchasing/procurementSupplier and manufacturer negotiationsEstimating/takeoff softwareBluebeamMaterial optimizationBOM developmentResidential and commercial LGS construction
What We'Re Looking For
We are looking for someone who understands that estimating is more than producing a number.
The right person should be able to look at a set of plans, understand the LGS scope, determine what materials are required, obtain and evaluate current supplier pricing, build an accurate estimate and help transition an awarded project into procurement.
This position will work closely with SWS leadership, operations, manufacturing, suppliers and project teams.
Applicants without Light Gauge Steel / Cold-Formed Steel experience will not be considered.
