Update systems & organisational capability in a flourishing nonprofit that’s gaining extraordinary results by inviting volunteers to bring their dogs into primary school classrooms

- Crucial national leadership role. Work from anywhere in Australia.
- Must have access to a robust internet network connection
- Experienced business capability and improvement professional with strong relationship and communication skills
- Permanent part-time – 0.6 FTE hours. Negotiable days of work, Monday to Friday.

This is a national nonprofit program formed over 15 years ago – and still powered by hundreds of volunteers. It encourages young students to improve their literacy and motivation through calm, supportive reading experiences. And its track record has proven that the warm, accepting nature of dogs creates a relaxed atmosphere that helps children feel at ease and ready to enjoy the process of reading.

In a safe, non‑judgemental environment, students from Year 2 upwards read stories to a friendly, canine companion, whereby anxiety fades, confidence grows, and a genuine love of reading begins.

The dog is the catalyst. Reading is the pathway. Confidence is the outcome.

Supported by a national network of staff, volunteers and community advocates, this growing nonprofit delivers measurable social and educational outcomes while enjoying widespread goodwill and significant potential for future growth. As you’d expect, the program is expanding rapidly…

In fact,

it’s growing so successfully beyond its grassroots beginnings that its CEO is now seeking the support of a business systems professional with a passion for organisational effectiveness. Someone who understands how strong systems, thoughtful processes and contemporary technology can enable people to do their best work, and who enjoys bringing order, structure and continuous improvement to a growing organisation. And if this expertise has been gained in an education setting, all the better!

Just as importantly, you'll be someone who takes genuine satisfaction in getting the details right. You'll have a natural curiosity for how things work, an eye for improving processes, and the ability to spot opportunities for greater efficiency without losing sight of the volunteers, staff and school communities those systems ultimately support. Comfortable moving between the strategic and the practical, you'll enjoy turning good ideas into well-executed outcomes.

So, this is a brand new role … and can be run from anywhere in Australia!

It’s not just a job, but a huge chance. This meaningful and rewarding position will suit a systems innovator who really ‘gets’ good business, loves the challenge of building capability, future proofing systems and translating vision into action.

You might be seeking a broader leadership role, looking to apply your systems and improvement expertise in a purpose-driven organisation, or searching for a position that offers flexibility alongside meaningful work where safety, kindness, respect and joy are values lived every day.

At the heart of this role is a close working partnership with the CEO, helping to translate vision into practical outcomes and build the organisational capability needed to support the next stage of growth. Together, you will support a nationally dispersed workforce, an engaged Board and an ever-growing volunteer network, strengthening systems, improving access to information, enhancing reporting capability and building the organisational foundations needed for future growth.

It’s an absorbing role at a very special nonprofit - and one that offers the opportunity to make a meaningful contribution while helping shape the organisation’s future growth.

To be considered for this role, please forward your cover letter and your resume in WORD format quoting reference number MCILSD to [email protected] or contact Mike Conroy on 07 3211 0001.
