Business Development Executive or Junior Manager, Technology and IP
Join one of the most commercially minded BD teams in the Australian legal market. You will sit within the Technology and IP BD team, report to the Senior BD Manager and work directly with partners on practice growth, client pursuits and profile raising. Title set at Business Development Executive or Junior Business Development Manager depending on experience. Two to five years in BD or marketing, ideally in a law or professional services firm.
Why the role exists
The Technology and IP practice is growing and the partners want a BD person who can help shape the growth plan and then run the pursuits, campaigns and client work that follow from it, rather than simply service requests.
The firm
Our client is a tier one Australian law firm with 123 partners, over 800 fee earners and a reputation for the most complex transactional, disputes and regulatory work in the market. It is an innovator in the use of technology in legal services and runs on energy, autonomy and a lack of hierarchy. In the CEO's words, big enough to matter and small enough that you matter.
The role
This is a hands on, strategic role in the Technology and IP BD team. You will partner with lawyers, partners and business leaders to drive growth, strengthen client relationships and raise the firm's profile across the technology sector.
You will:
- Work with the Technology and IP partners on practice growth plans, tracking priorities, actions and outcomes
- Monitor market, competitor and client activity and turn it into practical BD ideas
- Analyse revenue, pipeline and client data to inform priorities and decisions
- Support client targeting and client plans, including research,
meeting coordination and follow up
- Coordinate and deliver pitches, proposals and RFP responses with partners and the BD team
- Prepare capability statements, credentials, presentations and client facing materials for the technology sector
- Manage pursuit timelines and keep pipeline and opportunity data accurate
- Plan and deliver campaigns, thought leadership, webinars and client events
- Work with Communications on publications, media, digital channels and industry commentary
- Coordinate industry association, network and event partner relationships
- Support the adoption of CRM, reporting tools and AI across the BD team and contribute ideas on how the national team works
About you
- Around two to five years in business development or marketing, ideally in a law firm or another professional services workplace; legal, financial or advisory services preferred
- Experience supporting pitches, client programmes, campaigns or events
- Strong writing, with proposals, presentations and marketing materials you are proud of
- Research and analytical skills, with the ability to pull insight out of data and turn it into action
- Organised and calm with competing priorities and deadlines
- Proactive and resourceful, comfortable taking initiative and working with senior stakeholders
- An interest in technology, innovation and AI, and how they can make BD more effective
- Tertiary qualifications in marketing, business, communications or a related discipline preferred
What is on offer
- Top of market remuneration, up to 26 weeks paid parental leave, additional annual leave, a subsidised cafe and gym membership, end of trip facilities and a flexible, professional working environment. Sydney based.
