I’m Colin Evans, Director of The Asset Finance Shop. I’m writing this myself because I’m the person you’ll be working with every day and the person who will train you. Here’s what I’m looking for: one junior broker who works directly alongside me. A big part of this job is running my inbox and keeping me across everything. The rest is learning to broke deals properly, from me. This isn’t a graduate program, and it isn’t six weeks of shadowing before you’re allowed to touch anything. You’ll be in my inbox and on the phone with real customers in your first week, and I’ll be right there when you do it. What the job actually is There are two parts, and you need to be good at both. Running my inbox A lot of this job is managing my email. That’s deals, but it’s also everything else that lands in a director’s inbox: lenders, accountants, suppliers, dealers, customers chasing updates. Your job is to be across all of it so nothing slips. That means:
• Reading everything that comes in and knowing what’s urgent, what matters and what can wait
• Keeping deals moving by chasing documents, answering what you can and flagging what you can’t
• Knowing where every file is up to without having to go looking
• Catching the small things: a wrong ABN, a missing signature, a date that doesn’t line up If an unread email bothers you, you’ll fit in here. Learning to broke deals You’ll learn how to take a customer from a first phone call to a settled deal. That means:
• Talking to business owners about what they’re buying and why
• Working out what a lender will and won’t accept before we go anywhere near an application
• Putting the file together properly so credit doesn’t come back asking questions
• Following it through to settlement and staying in touch afterwards
• Everything in between What training with me looks like You sit beside me. You listen to my calls. I listen to yours. We go through deals together, including the ones that don’t work, because those teach you more. Because you’re in my inbox, you’ll see how every deal actually runs, start to finish, faster than you would anywhere else. Who I want to hear from Someone who has done some kind of finance, sales or admin-heavy work already. A bank, a dealership, a contact centre, a lending support role, an EA or office manager role. You know what a phone call with a stranger feels like and you’re not scared of a target.
• You learn fast. I’ll show you something once or twice, not ten times
• You notice details other people miss. In this job, one wrong number on an application costs real money
• You’re organised enough to keep 30 deals and a busy inbox moving without dropping anything
• You show up and you’re reliable
• You can hold a conversation with a truck driver and a CFO on the same day
• You listen more than you talk
• You want to be positive at this, not just employed A few honest things We’re fully office based. No work from home. We automate everything we sensibly can, so you’ll be working with HubSpot, AI tools and a proper tech stack rather than spreadsheets and sticky notes. If technology annoys you, this isn’t the place. This role is detail-heavy. If you’d rather focus on the big picture and leave the follow-up to someone else, this won’t suit you.
