Health and biomedical research depends on data that sits across governments, health services, research institutes, facilities and industry. The Australian Research Data Commons (ARDC) is seeking a senior leader to bring those components together through the People Research Data Commons (People RDC).

ARDC is Australia’s peak infrastructure for research data, funded by the Australian Government through the National Collaborative Research Infrastructure Strategy (NCRIS). We work with the research community and industry to build digital research infrastructure that gives Australian researchers a competitive advantage through data. The People RDC is one of our Thematic Research Data Commons, a national cooperative initiative that builds on existing ARDC platforms and national health data assets to help researchers, innovators and policymakers improve health outcomes for society.

The role The Director leads the planning, coordination and delivery of the People RDC. You will set the strategic direction for a national health research data infrastructure, covering platforms, data, informatics standards, advanced analytics, governance, policy, culture and skills. You will align that work with ARDC’s strategic plan and with national health and medical research priorities.

You will build and sustain relationships with government agencies, research institutions, NCRIS facilities, industry partners, clinicians and patient groups, and you will act as a key contact for stakeholder enquiries. You will oversee a portfolio of complex, multi-stakeholder programs and projects, and you will be accountable for delivering them on time, within budget and to standard. You will also measure and evaluate the impact of the People RDC,



and you will work with the other Thematic RDC Directors to share good practice and make the best use of shared resources.

The role reports directly to the CEO, carries a high degree of autonomy and has one direct report.

About you

You are an executive leader with a record of delivering sustainable outcomes in a complex portfolio environment, ideally in health and biomedical science or a related field. You have designed or delivered national-scale health research data infrastructure, and you understand the policy, technology and data landscape that surrounds it, in Australia and internationally.

You can work credibly with health service executives, policymakers, research leaders, clinicians and patient representatives, and you can explain complex ideas clearly in both private and public forums. You lead multidisciplinary, regionally dispersed teams well. You also bring business and financial acumen, and experience in planning projects and evaluating program effectiveness.

Relevant tertiary qualifications, extensive experience in health and biomedical research data infrastructure, or both, will support your application.

This position can be based in Melbourne, Canberra, Sydney or Brisbane.
