CT Quality Building Inspections

Darwin

Ready to use your years of building experience in a different way?

CT Quality Building Inspections is a small, local Darwin business looking for an experienced Carpenter to join our team and move into the building inspection side of the industry.

This isn't a standard carpentry position, and we're not looking for someone who simply knows how to swing a hammer.

We're looking for someone who has spent enough time in the building industry to have developed a solid, practical understanding of how a building comes together – from the slab right through to the roof.

The more varied your building experience, the better.

You might have worked across new homes, renovations, extensions, maintenance or rectification work. You may have dealt with concrete slabs, framing, roof trusses, wet areas, bathrooms, waterproofing, structural components, external structures and finishing work.

You don't need to have personally completed every trade involved in building a house. What matters is that you've been around construction long enough to understand what you're looking at, how it should generally be put together and when something doesn't look right.

Previous building inspection experience is an advantage, but isn't essential. We can train the right person in our inspection processes, reporting systems and the requirements of the role.

About the Role

As part of CT Quality Building Inspections, you'll attend residential properties throughout Darwin, Palmerston and surrounding areas to carry out detailed property inspections.

You'll be looking at buildings differently than you would on the tools – using your construction experience to identify defects, deterioration, maintenance issues, safety concerns and areas that may require further investigation.

You'll need to think beyond simply spotting a problem. We want someone who can look at an issue and use their practical experience to consider what may have caused it, how significant it could be and whether further investigation is required.

The role includes

- Conducting building and property inspections
- Inspecting residential properties for defects, damage and maintenance issues

- Assessing different components of a building from the ground up
- Identifying signs of movement, deterioration, moisture and other potential building issues
- Looking for poor workmanship or construction concerns
- Inspecting wet areas, bathrooms and other areas where water damage or construction issues commonly occur
- Assessing accessible roof spaces, roof framing and trusses
- Identifying potential safety concerns and areas requiring further investigation
- Taking photographs and accurately documenting your findings
- Preparing clear and professional inspection reports
- Managing your daily inspection schedule in coordination with our admin team
- Liaising professionally with homeowners, buyers, agents and other trades

The Experience We're Looking For For this position, broad construction experience is important. Ideally, your experience as a carpenter has exposed you to a range of areas such as:

- Concrete slabs, footings and foundations
- Timber and/or steel framing
- Roof framing and roof trusses
- General roof construction
- Wet area construction
- Internal walls, ceilings and linings
- Doors, windows and openings
- External cladding
- Decks, verandahs, patios and other external structures
- General maintenance and rectification work
- Identifying defects and poor workmanship

We don't expect you to know absolutely everything. What we're interested in is the knowledge that comes from years of actually working around buildings – knowing how different components interact and having the curiosity and practical thinking to investigate when something doesn't seem right.

We're Looking for Someone Who Is

- An experienced carpenter with a broad construction background
- Practical and confident around residential buildings

- Highly observant with excellent attention to detail
- Able to work independently and make practical assessments
- Reliable, organised and able to manage their time
- Comfortable using technology, taking photographs and completing reports

- Confident communicating with customers
- Professional and well presented
- Willing to continue learning and developing their inspection knowledge
- Able to identify problems and think practically about their likely cause and significance

- Comfortable getting into roof spaces and inspecting different areas of residential properties

Looking for a Change From Being on the Tools? This position could particularly suit a carpenter who has built up years of knowledge and experience and is ready for something different.

Your experience doesn't become less valuable because you want to spend less time physically building things.

It's actually what we're looking for.

You'll still be out and about, working around properties and using your practical knowledge every day – but instead of being stuck on the same job site, you'll be inspecting different properties, solving different problems and continually expanding your building knowledge.

What We Offer

- Company vehicle
- A varied role – every property is different
- Training in our building and property inspection processes
- The opportunity to turn your existing trade experience into a new career path
- Independent work without being stuck on the same job site every day
- A combination of inspections and customer interaction
- A friendly, supportive local team
- Opportunity to develop your inspection knowledge
- Opportunity to grow with the business

If you've spent years working in the building industry and have developed a strong understanding of how buildings are actually put together, we'd like to hear from you. Whether you're looking to step away from being on the tools full-time or simply want to take your building career in a different direction, this could be the opportunity you're looking for.

Pay: $45.00 – $55.00 per hour
