Expressions of Interest — Research and Development Intern — Systematic Hedge Fund

We’re developing an internship program for high-calibre STEM students who want hands-on experience in systematic trading.

If you’re interested in joining a systematic hedge fund that trades FX and Futures markets through a combination of top-down fundamental research, machine learning and rigorous quantitative modelling, we’d love to hear from you.

About Us

AE Capital is a team of market specialists, data scientists and engineers. Our team applies top-down fundamental analysis, machine learning and software engineering to financial markets.

We build systematic trading strategies for clients worldwide, grounded in a deep understanding of the fundamental drivers behind economies, industries and markets — and how that evolves over time.

About You

You’re articulate, intelligent, naturally inquisitive, and thrive in environments that encourage current ideas and value thought leadership.

We welcome interest from students who are:

- Pursuing a Bachelors, Masters or PhD in Physics, Atmospheric Science, Mathematics, Computer Science, Engineering or an equivalent STEM discipline
- WAM of 75+ or GPA equivalent




- Expected to graduate in 2027

Typical Roles at AEC

Depending on your background and our current projects, interns may contribute to:

- Software engineering — building or improving components of our trading, data and infrastructure platforms
- Quantitative development — supporting our research platforms, model infrastructure, data pipelines and back-testing tools
- Quantitative analysis — analysing market and trading data, testing hypotheses and contributing to the prediction of financial markets

Previous finance or trading experience is not essential.

Full working rights in Australia required. Sponsorship is not available.
