About the role

McConnell Dowell is seeking an experienced General Superintendent to lead construction and maintenance activities across our Rail business in Melbourne and regional Victoria.

This is a hands-on leadership role where you’ll oversee field operations, lead site teams and represent McConnell Dowell as the face of our business, while building strong stakeholder relationships to help secure future work and drive business growth.

Key responsibilities

- Lead and coordinate rail construction and maintenance activities across multiple sites.
- Provide frontline leadership to Supervisors, employees and subcontractors.
- Drive safety, environmental compliance, quality, and productivity across all operations.
- Manage resources, workforce performance, and schedules to achieve delivery targets.
- Build and maintain strong stakeholder relationships to identify opportunities, support business development, and secure additional work.
- Represent McConnell Dowell professionally, strengthening client relationships and our presence across Victoria’s rail sector.
- Identify risks and resolve operational challenges to keep working safely and efficiently.

About you

- Minimum 10 years’ relevant construction experience, including previous Superintendent experience.
- Proven leadership experience in rail construction, maintenance or a similar operational workplace.
- Strong knowledge of health, safety, environmental and quality requirements.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and stakeholder engagement skills.
- A proactive, commercially minded approach with the ability to identify opportunities and build lasting client relationships.




- Flexibility to travel regularly across Melbourne and regional Victoria.
