We are seeking outgoing, confident and nurturing people to work in a companion/escort capacity supporting people living with disability, with a focus on social connection and community participation.
Unlike traditional disability support work, this position focuses on providing an enjoyable and personal experience through companionship, conversation and activities. We are looking for people who take pride in providing personalised service, maintain high standards of personal presentation and have a genuine interest in developing ongoing connections with participants.
Positions are available across Victoria Park, Hillarys or Ballajura.
About the Role
You will work independently to plan and arrange activities both in and outside the home, which may include social outings, dining, preparing light meals together as a social activity, recreational activities and spending time pursuing shared interests.
An important part of the role is developing an ongoing connection with your participant, getting to know their personality, preferences, and providing companionship that supports their confidence and mental wellbeing.
While this position has some overlap with disability support work, the role focuses on companionship rather than traditional care. Responsibilities such as ADLs, PEG feeding, continence management and manual handling fall outside the scope of this position.
This is not a support worker position.
Hourly rate: $45-80 per hour, depending on shift type and day of the week.
Who We're Looking For
Our ideal candidate takes pride in providing a high standard of personalised service, with a genuine interest in understanding individual preferences and adapting their personality, manner and approach to suit each individual. This position may particularly appeal to university students or people seeking casual work alongside study or other commitments.
We expect consistently high standards of personal grooming and presentation. You should take pride in your appearance and enjoy putting considerable effort into your clothing, hair, grooming and overall styling. Maintaining this level of presentation is an important expectation of the role.
Equally important is your social presence.
We are looking for people who can consciously bring warmth, charm, confidence and playful energy to their interactions. You should be expressive, attentive and willing to take the initiative in creating an enjoyable and personalised experience for your assigned participant.
You should be open-minded, reliable and comfortable working with people of different ages, genders and cultural backgrounds.
We welcome applicants from a wide range of cultural backgrounds and particularly value experience living in a culture different from your own. This includes people who have moved to Australia from overseas, as well as Australians who have spent time living abroad. We believe these experiences can help develop an appreciation that everyday life can be very different for someone living with disability, including challenges that able-bodied people may take for granted.
Your Interests
We are looking for people with a variety of personalities, lifestyles and interests. Ideally, your interests will align with one of the following groups:
- Fashion, shopping, makeup, beauty, skincare, TikTok dances and trends, Pilates, beach outings, fine dining, cafes and trying recent experiences.
- Gym, swimming, fitness, dancing, casual dining and movies.
- Nature, bushwalking, hiking, yoga, reading, bookstores, quiet cafes, simple cooking, gardening, wildlife and spending time outdoors.
You do not need to share every interest. We are interested in finding people who have enough common ground with a participant to contribute naturally to conversation and will enjoy their time during activities. Why You'll Enjoy This Role
This is an opportunity to use your personality, social skills and interests in a rewarding role, with the flexibility to fit work around university or other commitments.
We can offer you
- Flexible weekday work that can fit around university, study or other commitments.
- The opportunity to build an ongoing connection with your participant rather than constantly working with different people.
- Opportunities to pursue and engage in interests you already enjoy as part of your work.
- A variety of social and recreational activities both at home and in the community.
- Independence to contribute ideas and help organise activities with your assigned particpant.
Availability There are no fixed weekday availability requirements. However, applicants will need to have some regular availability between Monday and Friday.
This position may not suit someone seeking guaranteed full-time hours, fixed weekly shifts, remote work or a traditional disability support position.
Requirements
- Comfortable working with people of different ages, genders and cultural backgrounds.
- High standards of personal grooming and presentation, with a willingness to adapt your appearance and style to suit different occasions and preferences.
