Canberra | On-site | Federal Government Secure Network Upgrade Program
PALAS Consulting is seeking Network Security Engineers, with several positions available, for a significant Federal Government secure network upgrade program. This is a multi-year engagement, contracted yearly with extensions, delivering new and changed network security services across secure gateways and cross domain boundaries on a classified Federal Government network.
The roles suit senior engineers who own the integration and technical assurance of network security components from design through build, test, documentation and handover into operations. You will work with substantial autonomy within a delivery team, provide authoritative advice in your discipline, and be expected to assess risk and influence engineering, operations and supplier stakeholders rather than wait for direction.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop integration approaches and detailed implementation plans for secure network services.
- Configure and integrate firewalls, secure gateways, routing, switching, load balancing and network security controls across multiple trust boundaries.
- Define build standards, interface requirements, test conditions and acceptance evidence.
- Investigate connectivity and security issues across platforms and trust boundaries, using structured fault isolation.
- Coordinate integration environments, dependencies, implementation windows, rollback plans and technical resources.
- Assess vulnerabilities, control gaps and integration risks, then recommend and implement proportionate treatments.
- Produce as-built documents, ruleset records, diagrams, test reports and operational handover material.
- Provide peer review and mentoring across engineering and operations teams.
Required Experience
- Senior network engineering experience in secure enterprise environments.
- Working knowledge of TCP/IP, routing, switching, VPNs, firewalls, proxies, DNS and network segmentation.
- Experience integrating and troubleshooting multi-vendor network security technologies.
- Experience developing and executing integration, verification and rollback plans under formal change control.
- Packet analysis, logging, monitoring and structured fault isolation.
- An understanding of secure-by-design principles and controlled configuration management.
- Clear technical documentation and the ability to coordinate stakeholders across engineering and operations.
- CCNP Security, Fortinet, Palo Alto, Check Point or a comparable network security certification.
- Experience with classified networks and secure gateways.
- Australian citizenship is mandatory.
- Must hold a current AGSVA security clearance.
Desirable
- Cross domain solution integration or support experience.
- Network automation and infrastructure-as-code practices.
- Exposure to Federal Government security architecture, accreditation or assurance activities.
Location and Working Arrangements
These roles are Canberra based and in office, with regular attendance at a client site a short drive from Canberra. Positions are available now, and candidates holding notice periods are encouraged to apply early.
