- AC Power Electronics & Motor Control
- VFDs, Soft Starters, Switchgear & High Current
- New Product Design, Customisation & Product Overhauls
- State-of-the-Art Engineering & Manufacturing Facility
- Long-Term Permanent Opportunity
Take what you know in Power Electronics and make it much bigger We are looking for a Power Electronics Design Engineer to pair with an experienced senior / lead Power Electronics designer and help build the next generation of industrial motor-control and power-electronics products.
Do you have a credible baseline of hands-on Power Electronics design capability and want to broaden that capability considerably?
You do not need to have done everything we do. That is the opportunity...
You will join an established Australian design and manufacturing operation backed by a major international industrial group and widen your engineering repertoire across:
- AC power electronics
- VFDs and motor drives
- soft starters and motor starting
- switchgear and industrial switching
- high-current electronics
- embedded motor-control products
- protection and sensing
- motors and compressors
You will apply yourself to new product design, customer-specific product customisation and major product redesigns / overhauls . And you will do it across a broad range of markets for commercial products used every day around the world:
- industrial
- residential
- marine
- caravans & RVs
- off-road
- off-grid
- battery power supply / electric vehicles
Skillset: Hands-on Power Electronics experience and enough depth to explain clearly:
- where you have been,
- what specifically you worked on,
- and what your contribution was.
You need enough previous experience to apply yourself to a range of activities (some recent exposure would be ideal but not essential):
- AC-side / mains-side Power Electronics
- three-phase electrical systems
- motors and motor-control applications
- power-stage design or development
- MOSFET / IGBT / SCR / TRIAC switching
- gate-drive circuitry
- AC-DC / DC-AC conversion
- current and voltage sensing
- protection and fault handling
- high-current hardware
- thermal design and derating
- EMC / EMI
- isolation, creepage and clearance
- schematic / PCB design or review
- prototype bring-up
- hardware fault diagnosis
- practical test and validation
Experience with VFDs, motor drives, soft starters, switchgear, contactors, industrial power supplies, UPS, solar inverters, EV chargers or similar industrial Power Electronics products would be particularly relevant. Strong postgraduate or research Power Electronics / motor-drive experience can also be valuable where you have personally designed, built and tested physical hardware... ideally seeing things through into production.
This is fundamentally a Power Electronics designer role .
You may be
- contributing to a new product architecture
- selecting or evaluating a topology
- designing or modifying a power stage
- specifying switching devices
- developing gate-drive, sensing or protection circuitry
- designing or reviewing high-current PCB layouts
- adapting an existing product for a new customer or application
- solving thermal, EMC or reliability problems
- redesigning ageing or underperforming products
- building and debugging prototypes
- validating hardware
- supporting products through production and release
You will work alongside more senior engineering capability, but this is a hands-on engineering position in its own right...
The opportunity
- 20+ years of motor-control know-how
- Products operating globally
- Stability with the backing of an established international industrial group
- Purpose-built 2,500 m² advanced engineering and manufacturing facility
- Electronics, firmware, mechanical engineering, testing, R&D; and production together under one roof
Tell us:
- where you have worked
- what products or systems you worked on
- the AC, motor, voltage, current or power levels involved
- what you personally designed
- what hardware you personally built, tested or debugged
- what current products, customisations or redesigns you contributed to
- what technical problems you solved
- what reached prototype, production or commercial release
Salary: $110,000 - $120,000 base + superannuation Permanent | Full-time | Wollongong / Port Kembla, NSW
If you have a good Power Electronics foundation and want a long-term design role where your technical repertoire can keep expanding, APPLY NOW!
