Company Description
PIOTICON is dedicated to shifting project performance management from reactive to proactive, helping organisations in the engineering and construction industry improve productivity and outcomes. The company focuses on excellence in project management and control, partnering with clients to improve project delivery and business performance. By combining systems thinking, deep domain expertise and practical problem-solving, PIOTICON offers cost-effective solutions that drive sustainable growth.
Team members work closely with clients to implement robust project control frameworks and performance management practices that support long-term success.
Role Description The Project Controls Manager is a full-time, in office role based in Brisbane, QLD. The role leads integrated project controls across engineering and construction projects, managing scope, schedule, cost, risk and change as one system. It sets up the controls framework for each project and makes sure it runs consistently through delivery. The initial assignment has a strong cost and commercial focus.
Key responsibilities:
- Scope: Define and baseline scope through the work breakdown structure, align it to the contract, and control scope movement through change.
- Schedule: Oversee integrated master schedules and baselines, review schedule quality and critical path, and forecast completion dates. Lead time impact and delay analysis.
- Cost: Own budget control, cost reporting, cash flow forecasting, contingency and estimate at completion. Use earned value to give leadership an early view of final cost and margin.
- Risk: Run the risk process, from workshops and registers through to quantitative schedule and cost risk analysis. Set and track contingency, and drive control actions to close-out.
- Change and claims: Assess the cost and time impact of variations and scope changes,
and support variation, claim and extension of time submissions with defensible data.
- Team and systems: Lead and develop planners and cost controllers, review outputs before they reach clients, and improve PIOTICON’s controls systems, dashboards and practices.
PIOTICON builds practitioners who control time and cost together. The successful candidate will be supported to strengthen their skills across the full controls discipline.
Qualifications
- Minimum 12 years of project controls experience on engineering or construction projects, including at least 4 years leading planners and cost controllers.
- Strong cost control skills, including budgets, cost reporting, cash flow forecasting, contingency and estimate at completion.
- Strong planning and scheduling skills, including integrated master schedules, baseline management, critical path analysis and progress measurement.
- Scope management experience, including WBS development, scope baselining and scope change control against the contract.
- Risk management experience, including risk registers and workshops. Quantitative risk analysis (QSRA or QCRA) is preferred.
- Proven use of earned value management and cost-loaded schedules on multi-disciplinary projects.
- Experience in change control, variations, claims and extension of time submissions.
- Proficiency with Primavera P6, Oracle Primavera Cloud (OPC), Primavera Unifier or similar, plus strong data analysis and Excel reporting skills.
- A tertiary qualification in engineering, quantity surveying, construction management, project management or a related discipline.
- Clear communication and stakeholder skills, with the ability to explain time, cost and risk position to senior leaders and clients.
- Experience on ANZ infrastructure projects (roads, rail, water, mining or oil and gas) is highly beneficial. AACE (PSP, EVP, CCP) or PMI-SP credentials are desirable.
