Senior Secondary Design Engineer – Perth

We’re recruiting a Senior Secondary Design Engineer in Perth on behalf of our client, a transmission and distribution business.

You’ll report to the engineering leadership team. The role suits someone with strong hands-on secondary design experience who can lead technical work packages from concept through to construction. You’ll work across a variety of projects, mentor junior engineers, and help shape design standards and processes across the organisation.

Responsibilities

- Lead and deliver secondary design packages, covering protection, control, SCADA, metering and auxiliary AC/DC systems
- Prepare and review schematics, wiring diagrams, cable schedules and panel layouts in line with relevant standards and codes
- Select and specify secondary equipment, including protection relays, IEDs, RTUs and control panels
- Oversee the technical quality of design outputs from internal design teams and external consultants
- Work with clients,



stakeholders and internal project teams to understand design requirements and constraints
- Carry out site assessments and inspections to inform and validate design solutions
- Support tendering and estimating by developing scopes, cost estimates and technical input
- Make sure designs meet regulatory, safety and network requirements
- Mentor and guide graduate and junior engineers

Experience

- Extensive secondary systems design experience in the utilities, infrastructure or industrial sector
- Proven track record leading secondary design packages on medium to large-scale projects
- Solid knowledge of protection and control schemes, substation automation and IEC 61850
- Skilled in industry-standard design and drafting software
- Able to manage competing priorities across several projects at once
- Experience working directly with clients and external stakeholders

Qualifications

- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline
