Job Overview

Own the design of mission-critical public safety solutions from contract to go-live.

This is a delivery role. As a Solution Architect in Octave's APAC delivery team, you will take a solution as sold and make it work as built. You will be the design authority on customer projects, owning the architecture from contract signature through build, acceptance and transition to support. Where a project cannot be priced until the solution is designed, you will also lead the technical design for paid discovery engagements, while presales owns the bid and the commercial approach.

You will work with presales, engineering, the platform lead, operations, customer architects, and Octave's Global Technology Centre. The work is technical and hands-on: integration design, non-functional requirements, solution security requirements, and migration planning for Octave OnCall Dispatch and related products.

The selected candidate needs to be based in Melbourne. A National Police Clearance is required for this position.

Responsibilities

What you'll do

- Act as the delivery Solution Architect and design authority on customer projects, accountable for the solution design from contract signature through build, acceptance and transition to support.
- Accept the solution from presales through a formal handover, validating the bid design, assumptions, risks and estimate basis before design work starts.
- Lead post-contract design phases, running design workshops with customers and producing high-level and detailed solution designs for customer sign-off.
- Lead technical design and estimation for paid discovery and solution design engagements where the design must be understood before the work can be priced, with presales retaining the commercial framing, business case and packaging of options.
- Contribute to bid reviews to assess deliverability and risk, with presales retaining ownership of demonstrations, RFI and RFP responses, and bid estimates.
- Maintain the agreed design baseline through delivery and keep a record of architecture decisions and their rationale.
- Design integrations and interfaces with customer and third-party systems, including telephony, radio, AVL, mobile and agency systems.
- Define non-functional requirements for availability, failover, disaster recovery, performance and capacity, with measurable targets.
- Define each customer's hosting and infrastructure requirements, working with the platform lead,

who owns the infrastructure design and the platform standard.
- Define the security requirements for each solution in line with ISO 27001 controls and customer obligations such as the ISM and Essential Eight, working with the security and platform teams.
- Plan data migration, cutover and parallel running for upgrades and platform migrations.
- Maintain traceability from requirements through design to acceptance tests, and support factory and site acceptance testing.
- Assess the technical impact of change requests and variations so scope changes are visible and priced.
- Work with development teams so solution designs align with product capability and the team's acceptance test-driven delivery approach.
- Work with the Global Technology Centre to confirm product fit, raise regional requirements, and decide where a need should be met by the product rather than a customisation.
- Prepare solutions for transition to operations, including operational readiness and support handover.
- Contribute to architecture standards and peer reviews, and mentor engineers on design practice.
