Mechanical Fitter / Pipe Welder – Pipe Prefabrication | Build pipe systems for a global leader in the piping industry

Our client is a well-established global business in the construction and piping industry. They provide engineered piping solutions and services to engineers, contractors and site owners, helping complex projects run safely, efficiently and on time. They’re now looking for a hands-on tradesperson with an LF licence to join their prefabrication facility in Eagle Farm on a full-time, permanent basis.

The business is open to two backgrounds. They’d like to hear from Mechanical Fitters with a strong assembly background, and from certified Pipe Welders who are open to moving into mechanical fitting work. There’s no preference on the size of parts you’ve worked with. What matters is solid assembly skills, precision and pride in quality work.

This is a hands-on workshop role focused on assembly and pipe cutting. You’ll take prefab projects from technical drawings and raw pipe through to finished assemblies ready for site, and you’ll be fully trained on the business’s specialised cutting and grooving equipment along the way.

You’ll be:

- Assembling prefabricated pipe systems from technical drawings and engineering specifications
- Measuring and cutting pipe, and assembling components and fittings to tight tolerances
- Inspecting incoming pipe and materials and completing the associated documentation
- Carrying out quality checks to make sure every assembly leaving the cell is within spec and compliant
- Operating the forklift and other material handling equipment to move pipe and components
- Looking after equipment and keeping the cell clean, organised and safe under 5S standards

- Recommending improvements to engineering specifications where you see them

Who will you be working with?

You’ll report to the Prefabrication Manager and work alongside the Fab Cell Lead and the wider prefabrication team. As you build your knowledge of the process, you’ll step in for the Fab Cell Lead when needed, so there’s a clear path to take on more responsibility.

What’s in it for you

- A full-time, permanent role with a well-established global business
- Full training on specialised cutting and grooving equipment
- A clear pathway to step up into the Fab Cell Lead role
- A business that values quality and welcomes your ideas
- Some travel to support other fabrication cell locations, when needed

What you’ll bring

- If you’re a Mechanical Fitter: a trade qualification (Certificate III in Engineering, Mechanical Trade) or equivalent, and a strong assembly background (essential)
- If you’re a Pipe Welder: certified welding qualifications and pipe experience (essential), plus a willingness to move into mechanical fitting and assembly
- A current LF (forklift) licence (essential)
- Confidence reading and interpreting technical drawings, schematics and technical manuals
- A solid understanding of quality procedures and accurate documentation
- Basic computer skills. Experience with the M3 system is a bonus
- Robust attention to detail, a calm head under pressure and a willingness to keep learning

Ready to take the next step?

If you’re a Mechanical Fitter with strong assembly experience, or a certified Pipe Welder keen to move into fitting work, and you hold your LF licence, we want to hear from you.

Apply now or reach out to Bailey Molloy at Waypoint on 0452 399 705 or [email protected] for a confidential chat.
