About Blackboat
Blackboat is a small Melbourne fundraising business, running since 2018. We find new monthly donors for much-loved Australian charities: one that brings emergency and everyday medical care to people in remote and rural communities, and one that protects and cares for animals. Our director, Matt Perrin, was named the PFRA Fundraiser of the Year for 2023.

What the work is
You set up at a charity stand at shopping centres and special events, and on regional road trips if you want them. You talk with people about causes many of them already love. Plenty of people are glad you stopped them, and some will choose to become regular monthly donors with you. You do it honestly and without pressure, because we want every donor to still feel good about their decision a year later.

How you are paid, please read this
This is an independent contractor role with performance-based pay, not a job with a wage. You need an ABN and you run your own small business.
- You are paid for each donor you sign up, not for your hours. There is no hourly rate, no base pay and no guaranteed income.
- A easy quality bond keeps things fair for everyone: a small part of each payment is held until the charity confirms the pledge, then paid out to you, less any cancellations.
- You invoice weekly, Monday to Sunday,



or opt in to our invoice service for a small fee.
- As your own business, you manage your own tax and super, and you're free to take time off whenever suits you.
- Your exact rates are agreed with you in writing before you start.

Who this suits

What you need
- An ABN, or be willing to get one (it is free and quick)
- The right to work in Australia
- To be comfortable holding clear conversations in English with members of the public
- To complete charity onboarding: charity registration, the PFRA modules and a charity ID badge
