About us

Eye & Laser Surgeons is a busy, well-established ophthalmology practice in Bondi Junction and Miranda. Both clinics are within walking distance of bus and train interchanges, with car parking close by (parking is often available at our Miranda office). Our associated laser centre, Bondi Laser Eye Centre, is co-located with Eye & Laser Surgeons, Bondi Junction.

We cover general ophthalmology and a wide range of subspecialties: cataract and refractive surgery (SMILE Pro/lenticule extraction, LASIK, PresbyMAX, TransPRK, implantable collamer lenses and refractive lens exchange), corneal surgery (transplants, CAIRS, ICRS, corneal cross-linking, topo-guided PRK), paediatric ophthalmology and strabismus, medical retina, glaucoma and Botox. That means a wide and varied range of clinical conditions and experience.

The role

We're looking for an orthoptist to join our friendly, energetic team. We welcome applications from experienced orthoptists and new graduates alike, and you'll be working closely with our three ophthalmologists. Alongside general orthoptic support, a major focus of the role is laser vision correction and refractive surgery: screening and work-ups, pre- and post-operative care (SMILE Pro, LASIK, PresbyMAX, TransPRK, CAIRS, ICRS and more), and there's potential to assist with laser vision correction (as a laser technician or scrubbed assistant/nurse).

This is a full-time position. For a very well-suited candidate, we are happy to discuss part-time or casual arrangements, including set days.

What we're looking for

- Orthoptics qualification (Bachelor of Health Science or equivalent)





- Experience in laser vision correction / refractive surgery (screening, work-ups and post-op care) is highly regarded, but new graduates and junior orthoptists are encouraged to apply, as training is provided

- Extensive hands-on experience with the Zeiss VisuMax 800 and Schwind Amaris is highly regarded

- Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal skills, and a positive phone manner

- Strong time management, priority management and problem-solving skills

- A team player who can also work independently, and whose first priority is patient care

What you'll do (depending on experience)

- Patient history and orthoptic work-ups

- Refractive surgery screening, pre-operative work-ups and post-operative reviews

- Potential to assist with laser vision correction as a laser technician or scrubbed assistant/nurse

- Refractions (automated phoropter/refractor and digital charts), VA, IOP (Goldmann and iCare)

- Biometry (IOLMaster 700 and Lenstar), topography/tomography (MS39), Wavefront aberrometry (Peramis)

- OCT / OCT angiography

- Anterior segment OCT, specular microscopy

- Humphrey visual fields, Optos widefield imaging, fundus photography and fluorescein angiography imaging

- Hess tests, synoptophore, paediatric and strabismus assessments

- Assisting with procedures,



including intravitreal injections, temporal artery biopsy, lid procedures, lesion excisions, chalazia and corneal cross-linking

- Ultrasound (A-scan, B-scan, UBM)

- Working collaboratively with ophthalmologists, orthoptists and administration staff, plus ad hoc admin support as required

Our equipment

- Our refractive lasers: Zeiss VisuMax 800 and Schwind Amaris 1050RS

- Other lasers: YAG/SLT and Argon

- Diagnostics: IOLMaster 700, Lenstar, MS-39, Peramis, Solix OCT (including OCTA and anterior segment OCT), specular microscopy, automated phoropter/refractor and lensmeters

- Newer Treatments: Macumira (dry AMD) and IPL
