- Sydney, Australia (Inner Eastern Suburbs) About ArborKnot: ArborKnot is a fintech operating at the cutting edge of non-performing loan (NPL) investing. We acquire, fund and manage consumer debt portfolios across Australia and Europe, combining proprietary pricing and collection-curve modelling with institutional warehouse funding to generate returns traditional debt purchasers can’t access. The group spans Australia, Europe, and Israel, with a portfolio of purchased loan books held across multiple funding trusts and backed by institutional investors. Collections have grown strongly over the past twelve months, and we have further portfolio acquisitions and various fundraising activity underway. We are small, fast-moving and commercially driven. Decisions get made quickly and people get genuine ownership of their work. Role Summary: We are building our finance function in-house. A significant portion of our accounting and finance operations currently sits with an external provider, and this role will progressively bring that work inside the business
- starting with the core operational cycle and expanding from there. This is a genuine build role, not a maintenance one. You will be taking processes that today live in someone else’s workpapers, learning them, redesigning them so they scale, and owning them. The finance function of a business several times our current size will be the one you help design. The role reports to the Chief Financial Officer and works closely with the executive team across Sydney, Tel Aviv and Europe. You will manage and develop our offshore finance operations resource, setting priorities, reviewing output and building the processes the two of you run together. Experience managing remote team members is valuable, but the appetite to do it well matters more.
Key Responsibilities
The initial focus is on taking ownership of the core finance operations cycle. These are the workstreams that keep capital moving, portfolios funded and investors informed. Reconciliations. Reconcile monthly collections across the group, spanning multiple debt collection agencies and jurisdictions. Investigate variances, confirm agency fee calculations and ensure collections data ties to the ledger and to trustee reporting. Management Reporting. Prepare the monthly reporting file underpinning cash forecasting, funding decisions and distributions across the group’s trusts and operating entities. Payment Schedules. Prepare and manage payment runs across multiple entities, currencies and banking platforms, with the controls and approvals appropriate to a funded business. Invoice Review. Review and approve the monthly invoice population in Xero, driving accuracy and consistency. Finance Inbox Management. Own the central finance inbox as the operational hub of the business
- triaging, actioning and escalating counterparty, agency, trustee, banking and investor correspondence. This is the highest-volume item in the role and the one that most requires judgement about what matters and what can wait. Banking, Hedging and Book Purchases. Process and approve key transactions, hedging settlements and loan book purchase funding through our banking platforms, working alongside the CFO and our funding partners.
Revenue and Portfolio Calculations. Prepare the periodic fee and revenue calculations across portfolios, including the workings that support amounts payable to and receivable from counterparties. How the Role Grows: The operational scope above is the starting point, not the ceiling. As those processes bed down, the role broadens across financial control, finance operations, treasury and hedging, and FP&A;:
- Consolidated group reporting across multiple entities and currencies
- Financial control
- the control environment, month-end discipline and process design
- Finance operations
- scaling the transactional engine as the business grows
- Treasury
- cash management, funding and FX risk
- FP&A;
- budgeting, forecasting, modelling and management reporting
- Statutory reporting, tax compliance and audit
- Investor and financier reporting
- Business partnering with the executive on funding, transactions and strategic projects How quickly this happens is largely up to you. We would rather stretch someone than hold them back.
- CA, CPA, or CFA qualified (or close to completion), with around 3-5 years’ experience across practice and industry
- the role will suit someone currently at analyst, senior analyst, financial accountant or senior financial accountant level looking to step up
- Confident owning your own deliverables end to end within a month-end cycle, and ready to take on the full cycle
- Advanced Excel and confident with accounting systems (we run Xero)
- Genuinely robust attention to detail
- much of this work involves reconciling large volumes of transactional data where errors are expensive
- Clear written communication, particularly by email with external counterparties Highly
