TDDA Cairns | Full paid training provided | Casual | Anticipated 20+ hours per week
Good with people? Organised and reliable? Looking for a role with variety and responsibility?
Join our locally owned Cairns team in a role combining practical drug and alcohol testing, customer service and administration.
You don’t need previous drug and alcohol testing experience. We’ll teach you the testing procedures and administrative systems—you bring attention to detail, a professional approach and the capacity to learn quickly.
Your experience might be in reception, administration, hospitality, customer service, aged care, security or another role where people rely on you to be thorough and get the details right.
What will you be doing?
You’ll help deliver drug and alcohol testing services at our Cairns clinic and at client workplaces, travelling to sites in our mobile testing vans.
Depending on the day, you could be:
- Welcoming clients, checking their details and explaining the testing process.
- Conducting breath alcohol testing and collecting hair, urine and saliva samples.
- Organising appointments, responding to enquiries and keeping bookings running smoothly.
- Helping with invoicing, stock deliveries, records and compliance tasks.
- Supporting our Operations Manager with the day-to-day running of the business.
Once trained, you’ll be expected to run the clinic independently, typically at least one day per week when rostered. You’ll need to be comfortable making decisions within established procedures and managing your workload.
What is the working week like?
We anticipate offering 20+ hours per week, depending on client demand and your availability, with potential for additional hours over time. Hours will vary and are not guaranteed.
The role combines clinic, office and on-site work. Start and finish times can vary considerably depending on client requirements, so flexibility with your availability is a real advantage. A willingness to consider shifts at short notice is also helpful, subject to your availability.
Early starts are common for on-site testing, sometimes around sunrise or earlier.
Office-based shifts generally start at 8 am.
By mutual agreement, you may occasionally provide on-call cover when other team members are unavailable. This is infrequent, and actual call-outs are very rare. Availability requirements and payment arrangements will be agreed in advance.
We provide paid training in testing procedures and detailed onboarding for the administrative responsibilities.
Who would suit this role?
You’re someone who:
- Makes people feel comfortable while maintaining professional boundaries.
- Takes ownership of jobs and clients, follows procedures carefully and gets the details right.
- Handles sensitive information discreetly.
- Is confident using computers and learning current systems.
- Stays organised, manages time well and works reliably and independently.
- Takes pride in a neat, professional appearance.
- Enjoys contributing to a small, collaborative team.
You’ll need a current manual driver’s licence and the ability to safely drive a high-roof, long-wheelbase van. You must also be comfortable handling biological specimens and have the spoken and written English skills needed to explain procedures and complete accurate records.
Previous testing experience is welcome, but it isn’t required.
Pre-employment checks and training
Appointment is subject to a pre-employment hair drug test and relevant background checks.
The selected applicant must provide a National Police Check issued within the past three months, at their own expense. You don’t need to obtain this before applying.
TDDA Cairns will pay for:
- The required pre-employment hair follicle drug test.
- Construction White Card training, if you don’t already hold a valid card.
- The required drug and alcohol specimen collector course qualification.
Required job training and onboarding will be paid working time.
Information collected during recruitment will be handled confidentially. Please let us know if you need reasonable adjustments during recruitment or to perform the role.
