Mental Health Support Worker
Harmony Care Queensland
About us
Harmony Care Queensland supports NDIS participants to live with greater independence, choice and confidence. Our work focuses on supporting people with mental health challenges and complex support needs in supported accommodation and the community.
We are looking for patient, reliable and compassionate Support Workers who can build trust, stay calm under pressure and provide consistent support.
About the role
You will support participants with their daily routines, personal goals and community involvement. This role suits someone who understands that building trust takes time and can adapt their approach to each person’s needs.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Building respectful relationships that support participants’ choice, dignity and independence.
- Providing recovery-focused, trauma-informed support to people experiencing mental health challenges.
- Assisting with personal care, meal preparation, household tasks and daily living skills.
- Supporting participants to attend appointments, access the community and take part in meaningful activities.
- Following individual support plans, Behaviour Support Plans and agreed response strategies.
- Recognising changes in wellbeing, responding calmly to distress and escalating concerns appropriately.
- Providing medication assistance within your training, authorisation and organisational procedures.
- Completing accurate shift notes, incident reports and other required documentation.
- Working collaboratively with participants, families, support coordinators and treating teams while maintaining confidentiality and professional boundaries.
About you
You bring empathy, sound judgement and a consistent approach to your work. You understand that behaviour can communicate distress, and you can offer reassurance while following support plans and maintaining safety.
We are looking for:
- Experience supporting people with mental health challenges, psychosocial disability or complex support needs.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to build rapport with people who may be hesitant to engage.
- An understanding of person-centred support, recovery principles and positive behaviour support.
- Confidence working independently and as part of a team.
- Reliability, punctuality and explicit written documentation.
- Availability for rostered shifts, which may include mornings, evenings, weekends, sleepovers and active overnight support.

- Certificate III in Individual Support, Certificate IV in Mental Health, or a relevant qualification is desirable.
- Current NDIS Worker Screening clearance, or willingness to obtain the required clearance before commencing.
- Current First Aid and CPR certificates.
- Completion of the NDIS Worker Orientation Module, or willingness to complete it before commencing.
- A current driver’s licence and the ability to meet participant transport requirements.
- A Blue Card where required for the role.
- Appropriate Australian work rights.
