PERFECT FOR UNI STUDENTS

EARN $300–$515+ PER DAY | TEST & TAG TECHNICIAN

Flexible Contractor Role | Fit Around Your Studies | Melbourne

Looking for work that pays well, fits around your uni timetable, and doesn't lock you into a roster? This might be exactly what you're after.

We're a growing electrical compliance business seeking motivated self-starters to join our contractor network as independent test and tag technicians. No prior experience necessary — we can point you toward everything you need to get certified and get started.

WHAT IS TEST AND TAG?

Test and tag (formally known as in-service inspection and testing of electrical equipment under AS/NZS 3760) is the process of safety-testing electrical appliances in commercial workplaces. It's a nationally recognised trade skill, takes a short course to certify, and is in constant demand across every industry.

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING

Visiting commercial, government and education client sites to inspect, electrically test, and compliance-tag portable electrical equipment. Work is methodical, largely self-directed, and well-suited to someone who is driven and has a excellent work ethic - because the more you put in, the more you will earn.

You'll be travelling to client sites independently using your own vehicle, so a reliable car and clean licence are essential.

WHAT YOU CAN EARN

You're paid per tag tested and certified to standard. Your output drives your income:

- Steady day (350 tags): ~$360 + super paid to your fund
- Strong day (425 tags): ~$435 + super paid to your fund
- Excellent day (500+ tags): ~$515+ + super paid to your fund

Super is paid on top of your per-tag earnings, quarterly, into your nominated fund. Full details of the payment structure are discussed with shortlisted applicants.

THIS IS A CONTRACTOR ROLE

You'll be engaged as an independent contractor, not an employee. That means:

- You need an ABN (free and easy to register at abr.gov.au)
- You set your own availability — work the days that suit your timetable

- You're not locked into a roster and can take or decline jobs as they come
- You're responsible for your own certifications, insurance, and PAT testing equipment
- You make your own way to and from client sites — travel is your responsibility
- You invoice us for work completed and we pay promptly

This suits students who want genuinely flexible, well-paid work rather than a casual retail or hospitality job — and who want to build a real, transferable trade skill along the way.

WHAT YOU'LL NEED BEFORE YOU START

The following are all conditions of engagement. If you don't hold them yet, we can point you in the right direction:

- A reliable car and current, clean valid driver's licence - essential, non-negotiable
- An ABN (free to register at abr.gov.au)
- A current Working With Children Check (WWCC) - required for some client sites
- Current CPR and First Aid certification - nationally recognised and broadly useful
- A test and tag competency certificate - short, nationally recognised, available through most RTOs (we will assist you in setting this up)
- Public liability insurance - affordable sole trader policies start from around $500/year
- Your own calibrated PAT tester (we will assist you in setting this up)

These certifications and credentials are valuable across the electrical services and facilities management industries well beyond this role — a genuine investment in your own professional toolkit.

WHY THIS BEATS A CASUAL JOB

- No fixed roster — you control your availability around lectures and exams
- Earning potential well above typical student casual rates
- Super paid on top of, not instead of, your earnings
- Nationally recognised certifications on your resume
- Work independently — no retail customers, no hospitality stress
- Get out of the office and on the road — every day is a different site

TO APPLY

Send us a short message telling us about yourself, and why this appeals to you. Let us know which of the above certifications you already hold, and confirm you have your own car and a clean licence. No formal cover letter needed — just be genuine.

Pay: $35.00 – $50.00 per hour

Work Location: On the road
