- Investigate revenue, cost recovery and margins across 30+ businesses
- Work in a team that values collaboration, social culture and ambition to improve
- Work with operational managers, multiple systems and regional site visits

Why You Should Apply
Your first move into commercial finance should give you a chance to understand the business behind the accounts. This newly created role offers that exposure within a private equity backed group generating $60m to $70m in revenue across more than thirty operating businesses nationally.

Following a period of acquisition-led growth, the group is consolidating its systems and processes ahead of further acquisitions planned for next year. Its businesses operate differently, with their own revenue streams and cost recovery arrangements. Understanding those differences is central to this hire.
The support around you is a genuine part of the appeal.

Most of the stakeholders you will work with are CA or CPA qualified, out of chartered firms or commercially focused finance careers, so there are people to learn from while you build commercial experience.

For an accountant who enjoys investigating discrepancies and following them through, this is an opportunity to apply that strength to commercial decisions.

The Opportunity
Reporting to the Commercial Finance Lead, you will work across finance and operations, building relationships with the managers responsible for individual businesses.

You will help them understand revenue, service costs and margins, and establish where changes to charging or recovery arrangements are needed. The systems environment includes Sage alongside the operational platforms,

and regional site visits give you exposure to the businesses you support.

Your manager works remotely and visits regularly, so you will need to organise your workload, raise questions and seek input when needed. Around 40% of the role is recurring reconciliations, journals and gathering information, and that balance is deliberate for someone early in their career. This is a hands-on accounting position with a substantial investigative and problem solving component, not a dedicated analyst role.

What You’ll Do
Your work will follow the numbers from operational systems through to the ledger, then into the conversations and decisions they inform. Priorities will shift through the month, with responsibilities including:

- Review revenue accounts to identify missing income, incorrect charges and unexplained movements
- Prepare and maintain accruals across businesses with different operating and recovery models
- Reconcile reports from multiple systems to the ledger and investigate discrepancies
- Analyse service delivery costs against amounts recovered, highlighting where margins are affected
- Work with operational managers to resolve queries and understand the reasons behind variances
- Support budgeting for services and logistics, using what you learn from operating performance
- Support month end with bank reconciliations, prepayment and accrual schedules,

and clearing and intercompany reconciliations
- Validate system configurations and data during the next three to six months of implementation work, and support onboarding as current businesses come in

Who You Are
You are curious, thorough and willing to ask another question when an explanation does not make sense. Just as importantly, you can build working relationships with operational managers and explain what you need without assuming they have an accounting background.

- An investigative approach, with the patience to trace an issue through to resolution
- Clear communication and confidence asking questions across finance and operations
- Initiative to manage your priorities and keep a remote manager informed
- Sound accounting foundations across journals, accruals, profit and loss, and balance sheet reconciliations
- Strong Excel skills and confidence working across several systems
- Approximately one to four years’ experience in accounting, audit or analytical support
- CA or CPA qualified or progressing
- Multi-entity, multi-site or trust accounting experience would be useful
- Power BI experience would be advantageous

The Offer
$90k to $100k base plus super, based in Brisbane CBD. With workplace flexibility on offer once you've had your knee's under the desk for a few weeks.

You will develop practical management accounting experience, a closer understanding of operating margins, and a track record of improving process inside an acquisitive group, with more than thirty operating models to learn from along the way.
