Field Service Heavy Diesel Mechanic

Nexgen Crushing & Screening (NGC)
FIFO from Perth | 2:1 or 2:2 Rosters | $58–$77 per hour + Incentive Bonuses

Sick of Working on the Same Equipment Every Day?

If you’re a Heavy Diesel Mechanic who enjoys fault finding, getting out into the field and working on a variety of machinery, this could be the opportunity you’ve been looking for.

Nexgen Crushing & Screening (NGC) is looking for an experienced Field Service Heavy Diesel Mechanic to support our crushing, screening, earthmoving and haulage operations throughout Western Australia.

This role isn't for everyone. Field service work in the mining, crushing and screening industry can be physically demanding and involve working in remote locations, harsh weather conditions, dusty environments and challenging site conditions. You’ll need to be adaptable, safety-focused and comfortable working outdoors and away from home as required.

This is a hands-on role for a mechanic who can think on their feet, diagnose problems, work independently and get equipment back up and running. You’ll be working across a diverse fleet, tackling everything from scheduled servicing and preventative maintenance to breakdowns and complex mechanical faults.

We’re a growing WA-owned business where good mechanics are valued, initiative is encouraged, and your work has a direct impact on keeping our operations moving.

What You'll Be Working On

Forget doing the same job on the same machine every day. Our fleet includes:

- CAT earthmoving equipment and heavy mobile plant

- Scania and Kenworth prime movers

- Kleemann & Metso crushing and screening plants

- Hired and third-party equipment as required

- Occasional Toyota light vehicles

You'll provide field service maintenance and repairs across our operations, travelling to equipment and work locations as required. You'll need to be comfortable diagnosing faults in the field, making practical decisions and working through problems to minimise downtime.

What You'll Be Doing

- Carrying out field service repairs, preventative maintenance and scheduled servicing across a diverse fleet.

- Diagnosing mechanical,

electrical and operational faults and getting equipment back into service as efficiently as possible.

- Responding to breakdowns and maintenance requirements across operational sites.

- Inspecting machinery, identifying potential issues and addressing problems before they become costly downtime.

- Planning maintenance around production requirements to keep equipment operating reliably.

- Identifying parts requirements and recommending practical, cost-effective repair solutions.

- Maintaining accurate service records, work orders and maintenance documentation.

- Communicating equipment issues and repair priorities with Site Supervisors, the Works Coordinator and management.

- Working autonomously in the field while contributing to a team focused on safe, reliable and productive operations.

- Maintaining high standards of safety, workmanship and compliance across all maintenance activities.

Why Join NGC?

Variety in your work. Work across crushing and screening plants, earthmoving machinery, trucks and other equipment. There’s always something different to diagnose, repair or maintain.

Get out in the field. Take your mechanical skills beyond the workshop and work directly with the equipment and operations that keep the business moving.

Autonomy and responsibility. We want mechanics who can use their experience, take ownership of their work and get on with the job.

Competitive pay. Hourly rates ranging from $58 to $77, depending on experience and capability, plus opportunity for quarterly incentive bonuses.

A growing WA-owned business. Join a team that is continuing to expand its crushing, screening and earthmoving operations across Western Australia.

Your skills make a difference. Reliable equipment is critical to our operations.

Your ability to identify issues, carry out quality repairs and minimise downtime directly contributes to the success of the business.

About You

You're a hands-on mechanic who enjoys problem-solving, takes pride in quality workmanship and doesn't need someone looking over your shoulder to get the job done.

You'll ideally have:

- An Australian-recognised Heavy Diesel Mechanic trade qualification or equivalent.

- Experience with heavy mobile plant, earthmoving equipment, road transport or crushing and screening machinery.

- Strong mechanical diagnostic and fault-finding skills.

- Experience working independently and prioritising repairs in a field service environment.

- Ability to work in physically demanding field service environments, including remote locations, outdoor conditions, dust, heat and other challenging site conditions.

- A practical, solutions-focused approach to breakdowns and maintenance.

- A solid commitment to safety and reliable workmanship.

- The ability to maintain accurate records and communicate effectively with site personnel.

You'll also need:

- A current driver's licence (minimum HR preferred)

- A White Card.

- Australian working rights

- The ability to obtain a National Police Clearance and successfully complete a pre-employment medical and drug and alcohol screening.

- Living in Western Australia (or planning to relocate)

Albany and Great Southern Mechanics Encouraged to Apply

Based in Albany or the Great Southern? We'd particularly like to hear from you.

Opportunities may be available for local mechanics, alongside FIFO positions from Perth. This role will support projects across Western Australia, so you'll need to be prepared to travel and work away from home as required.

Ready for Something Different?

If you're a qualified Heavy Diesel Mechanic who enjoys field work, variety and the satisfaction of keeping heavy equipment operating, we want to hear from you.
