We are seeking an experienced Operations Manager to lead the day-to-day operations of a busy terminal facility in Darwin. This is an exciting opportunity for an operational leader with a strong background in terminal operations, bulk liquid handling, process safety and people management.

In this role, you will oversee operational performance, drive a strong safety culture, develop team capability and ensure terminal activities are delivered safely, efficiently and in compliance with relevant legislation, environmental requirements and industry standards.

Working closely with internal teams, customers, contractors and regulatory stakeholders, you will play a key role in maintaining operational excellence, supporting maintenance and capital projects, and identifying opportunities to improve performance and cost efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

Safety, Risk & Environmental Compliance

- Champion a proactive safety culture and ensure compliance with site safety systems, environmental regulations and operating procedures.

- Lead the reporting, investigation and close-out of incidents, hazards and corrective actions.

- Oversee safety-critical processes, including Permit to Work (PTW), Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), Management of Change (MOC) and safety-critical equipment controls.

- Drive continuous improvement in risk management, environmental performance and sustainability.

Terminal Operations & Maintenance

- Oversee daily terminal operations, including tank farm activities, bulk liquid transfers, shipping and bunkering operations.

- Coordinate operational schedules and priorities with shift leaders, operators and maintenance teams.

- Monitor alarm management processes and ensure operational procedures and controls are maintained.

- Support maintenance execution, capital projects and major shutdown activities, including providing operational support outside standard hours when required.

Leadership & Team Development

- Lead and develop shift leaders and operational personnel, fostering accountability, collaboration and continuous improvement.

- Manage operational rosters,



workforce coverage and overtime allocation to meet business and competency requirements.

- Oversee training, competency assessments and development plans to ensure employees are appropriately skilled.

- Support recruitment, onboarding, workforce planning and performance management.

Customer & Stakeholder Management

- Build and maintain strong relationships with customers, contractors, suppliers and other stakeholders.

- Respond to operational enquiries and ensure timely, clear communication regarding terminal activities.

- Manage customer feedback, service requests and complaints, ensuring issues are resolved effectively.

Projects, Audits & Continuous Improvement

- Support the planning and delivery of minor operational projects, capital works and major maintenance shutdowns.

- Conduct and support operational audits, ensuring findings are tracked and corrective actions completed.

- Identify operational risks, process improvements and opportunities to increase efficiency and reliability.

Financial & Commercial Performance

- Monitor operational expenditure, analyse cost trends and identify cost-saving opportunities.

- Maintain accountability for assigned budgets and support effective resource allocation.

- Promote cost awareness and efficient use of people, equipment and resources.

About You

You are a hands-on operational leader who thrives in a safety-critical, high-hazard setting. You can balance operational priorities with safety, compliance, customer expectations and commercial performance, while motivating teams to achieve high standards.

You will ideally bring:

- Demonstrated experience in operations management, process plant operations, oil and gas, chemicals, petrochemicals,



mining, manufacturing or a similar industrial environment.

- Experience in bulk liquid terminal operations, tank farm management, shipping or bunkering will be highly regarded but is not essential.

- Proven experience leading operational teams, including shift leaders and frontline operators.

- A sound understanding of safety-critical systems, including Permit to Work (PTW), Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), Management of Change (MOC) and incident management.

- Experience supporting maintenance planning, capital projects, shutdowns and operational reliability.

- An understanding of operational reporting, inventory management, audit processes and corrective action tracking.

- Financial awareness, including budget management, cost analysis and identifying efficiency improvements.

- Strong customer service, stakeholder engagement and communication skills.

- The ability to make sound decisions, address challenges confidently and maintain composure under pressure.

Qualifications

A tertiary qualification in Engineering, Process Operations, Logistics, Supply Chain Management or a related technical discipline will be highly regarded.

Alternatively, a relevant diploma or advanced diploma in terminal operations, process plant operations, leadership and management, or an equivalent combination of technical training and industry experience will be considered.

Candidates with transferable experience from other complex, safety-critical industrial environments are encouraged to apply.
