East Coast Generators - Power you can rely on.
You don't need a trade certificate to know which end of a spanner to hold.
We're looking for someone who's good with their hands, mechanically minded and doesn't need to be asked twice to get stuck in.
Not someone who spends half the day watching the clock.
Not someone who walks past a problem because it's somebody else's job.
And definitely not someone who thinks being a Trade Assistant means standing around waiting for instructions.
We mean someone who enjoys working with machinery, takes pride in doing things properly and wants to learn from people who know their trade.
At East Coast Generators, we're growing, investing in our workshop and building a team that genuinely enjoys working together.
If that sounds like somewhere you'd fit, keep reading.
Trade Assistant | Diesel Generators & Equipment
What the role actually looks like
You'll be working alongside experienced diesel technicians in our Altona North workshop, helping keep generators serviced, repaired and ready to go.
Some days you'll be assisting with mechanical repairs.
Some days you'll be preparing equipment for delivery.
Some days you'll be helping the team work through a workshop full of jobs that all needed doing yesterday.
There's variety, there's machinery, and there's plenty to learn.
You'll be:
- Assisting technicians with servicing, repairs and mechanical work
- Changing fluids, filters and components under supervision
- Helping strip down, clean, inspect and reassemble equipment
- Preparing generators and associated equipment for customers
- Identifying obvious faults, leaks, wear and damage
- Keeping tools, parts and jobs organised
- Helping move, load and unload equipment safely
- Making sure the workshop stays clean, protected and ready for the next job
You're not expected to know everything.
But we do expect you to pay attention, ask questions and take pride in getting things right.
Who this role suits
You might have worked in a mechanical workshop.
You might have spent time around trucks, plant, agricultural equipment or machinery hire.
You might be the person who's always fixing things in the shed on weekends.
We're not particularly interested in where you learned your skills.
We're interested in what you can do with them.
You'll fit in here if you:
- Have a genuine interest in engines and mechanical equipment
- Know your way around hand and power tools
- Turn up ready to work and pull your weight
- Can take direction without needing to be micromanaged
- Have the initiative to see what needs doing next
- Aren't afraid to ask when you don't know something
- Take safety seriously and look out for your teammates
- Want to keep learning and getting better
You'll need a current driver's licence.
A forklift licence would be handy, but we can work with the right person who's willing to obtain one.
How we do things at ECG
We keep it pretty simple.
- Safety comes first. Every time.
- We look out for each other.
- We respect the equipment, the workshop and the people around us.
- We take ownership and follow through.
- We speak up when something isn't right.
- We look for ways to do things better.
We're not building a workplace full of passengers.
We're building a team where everyone contributes, from the most experienced technician to the person who's just getting started.
You don't need to know everything to be valuable. You just need to bring the right attitude and a willingness to learn.
Why this role exists
We're growing.
Our rental fleet is expanding, our service workload is increasing, and we're continuing to invest in the people and systems that support both.
That means giving our technicians the support they need to do their best work, while developing capable people who can grow with the business.
We're not looking for someone to simply fill a gap in the workshop.
We're looking for someone who can become a valued part of the team.
What you get
- Stable, full-time role with an established, family-owned business
- Clean, well-equipped workshop in Altona North
- Hands-on experience with diesel generators and industrial equipment
- The opportunity to learn from experienced technicians
- Supportive leadership that listens to ideas
- Uniforms supplied
- A team that works hard, backs each other and enjoys a laugh
- Opportunity to develop your skills as the business grows
Pay will reflect your experience, attitude and capability.
One last thing
You don't need to be the best mechanic in the workshop.
That's not the job.
But if you're the sort of person who sees a job that needs doing, gets involved and takes pride in making the team's day easier, you'll fit right in.
Good attitude. Mechanical aptitude. No passengers.
If that's you, we should talk.
Be careful - Don't provide your bank or credit card details when applying for jobs. Don't transfer any money or complete suspicious online surveys. If you see something suspicious, report this job ad .
