About the College

Music Industry College is a senior secondary school in Fortitude Valley offering Year 11 and 12 students the opportunity to study for their Queensland Certificate of Education in a tertiary-style environment. Our focus is to empower young people to succeed in the music industry and in life.

MIC has 90 students enrolled per year allowing class sizes to be smaller. Many students arrive having found that a conventional school setting did not suit them, and they leave with a successful outcome for QCE, an ATAR if needed, and a much clearer sense of where they are heading. Our teachers are experienced, qualified and enthusiastic with most of them actively involved in the music industry. The College works closely with industry professionals across Brisbane.

About the role

Our Business Manager and Co-Founder is moving on after 16 years and we are looking for someone to take the role forward in the area of administration.

The Business Manager (Administration) will work in a dual role with the Business Manager (Finance) to ensure the business and operational side of the College runs smoothly. These roles would support the Principal, report regularly to the Board, and manage our administrative staff of 3. They are broad roles in a small organisation with this role covering daily administrative workflow, assurance, compliance, policy and risk matters.

Your responsibilities would include

- Data & System Management - Manage Data & Systems for student record keeping as an accredited non-government school. MIC uses TASS for student management alongside PASSTAB, School Stream and the Google platform
- Building Maintenance - Oversee building maintenance, grounds, cleaning, security and contractor management under workplace health & safety.
- Enrolment Management – Oversee the enrolment process and any documentation requirements for the secure recording of information through this process

- Governance & Compliance - Maintain the College’s administrative compliance with relevant state and federal regulation, including the accreditation criteria for the Non-State Schools Accreditation Board, and assist Principal with the 5 yearly compliance review. Maintain accurate records in relation to MICS Ltd Board. Maintain the Blue Card and Working with Children Check register for all staff, volunteers, contractors and visiting industry practitioners, including verification before engagement, ongoing monitoring and accurate records. Maintain the risk register, review it with the Principal [bi-monthly], and report material risks to the Board and ensure the College meets its work health and safety obligations, including hazard identification, incident reporting, contractor safety and emergency planning
- HR – Admin/Recruitment/Training/Contracts - Interpret and apply the relevant awards, and obtain external advice where interpretation is unclear, prepare employment contracts and variations, and manage onboarding, induction and offboarding. Manage alongside the Business Manager (Finance) the recruitment, induction and performance of administrative staff, and assist the Principal with the recruitment of teaching and support staff
- Policy & Procedure Management - Develop and maintain operational policies, practices and standards supporting the College’s administrative function, and keep the policy register current and accessible
- Timetabling & Subject Coordination – Manage the school’s timetable template and adjust as and when required. Manage the subject selection process, supporting the Principal with class sizes, teacher loads, room allocations and QCAA regulations around QCE and ATAR eligibility
- Events Coordination - Our events and performances are currently coordinated by the outgoing Business Manager assisting relevant teaching staff and principal through budgets, contracts, insurance, licensing, risk assessments, venue bookings and liaising with external providers as required.

This will be the responsibility of the Business Manager (Administration) with input from the Business Manager (Finance) on budgetary matters.
