Melbourne
Looking for more than just a job? Want to learn from an industry expert, take on real responsibility and build a career with genuine potential?
Are you naturally organised, great at solving problems, comfortable with numbers and someone who loves figuring out how things work?
Ple...
Perhaps you're early in your career, have some experience in administration or project coordination, or have completed further studies and are looking for an opportunity to put your skills to work.
More importantly, perhaps you're someone with plenty of initiative, a great attitude and the ambition to become really good at what you do, given the right opportunity.
If that sounds like you, we'd love to hear from you!
About the opportunity
Network Energy Services (NES) is an established Australian embedded network and utility services business with more than 20 years' experience supporting communities across Australia.
We're looking for a bright, proactive and enthusiastic person to join our energy operations and projects team.
This is a particularly exciting opportunity because you'll be working directly alongside one of our most experienced industry specialists, learning firsthand how new energy projects are established, coordinated and managed from beginning to end.
You will be mentored and trained across the practical, commercial and operational aspects of our business, gradually developing the knowledge, confidence and experience to take on more complex responsibilities.
We're not expecting you to walk through the door knowing everything about the energy industry. In fact, we're happy to teach you!
What we're really looking for is someone who has the natural ability, curiosity, enthusiasm and determination to learn, develop their skills and eventually become a highly capable and valued member of our team.
For the right person, this could be the beginning of a rewarding long-term career, with genuine opportunities to grow into more senior operational and project management responsibilities as your capabilities develop.
What's in it for you?
This certainly isn't a position where you'll spend every day doing the same thing!
You'll have the opportunity to learn how different areas of the Australian energy industry connect, including electricity metering, embedded networks, energy retailers, contractors, wholesale electricity markets, commercial pricing and new project implementation.
You'll gain hands‑on experience across the operational, administrative, financial, commercial and project coordination areas of the business.
More importantly, you'll be learning from an experienced specialist who understands the industry in exceptional detail and is keen to pass that knowledge on to someone who genuinely wants to learn.
You’ll have the opportunity to:
- Work directly with and be mentored by an experienced industry specialist involved in new business and project implementation.
- Learn how new embedded network projects are planned, established, coordinated and brought into operation.
- Develop practical project coordination, commercial, administrative and operational skills.
- Understand how electricity metering, electrical plans and diagrams, energy retailers, contractors and industry processes all fit together.
- Gain experience in electricity pricing, wholesale energy rates, purchasing, tendering, invoicing and commercial administration.
- Work across a variety of industry systems, software platforms and real-world projects.
- Take ownership of tasks, follow projects through and see the results of your work.
- Gradually build the confidence and knowledge to manage more complex responsibilities independently.
- Work in a supportive team where asking questions, learning and taking initiative are genuinely encouraged.
- Enjoy consistent Monday-to-Friday, 9 am–5 pm business hours.
We're looking for someone who wants to build their skills and knowledge over time, with the ambition to become a genuine specialist in their field.
What will you actually be doing?
Your days will be varied, and you'll gradually gain experience across a broad range of responsibilities, including:
Project coordination and new business
- Assisting with the establishment, onboarding and implementation of current embedded network projects.
- Learning how projects progress from initial planning and commercial arrangements through to implementation and ongoing operations.
- Assisting with the review and understanding of electrical plans, single-line diagrams, metering arrangements and project documentation.
- Liaising with engineers, developers, principals, electricity retailers, metering providers, contractors and other commercial stakeholders.
- Coordinating and tracking electricity metering installations and related works.
- Monitoring project progress, following up outstanding tasks and ensuring important details and deadlines aren't overlooked.
- Maintaining accurate project documentation, schedules and operational records.
Commercial and operational support
- Ordering electricity meters and other equipment and preparing purchase orders.
- Reviewing quotations, supplier pricing, invoices and commercial documentation.
- Assisting with electricity pricing comparisons, wholesale energy rates, tendering and contract administration.
- Cross‑checking figures, charges and pricing information to ensure accuracy.
- Investigating discrepancies and helping resolve metering, billing and operational issues.
- Understanding how commercial arrangements, electricity pricing and operational requirements affect the wider business.
- Assisting with reporting, spreadsheets and the analysis of operational and commercial information.
Systems, administration and communication
- Learning and working across energy market platforms, ordering portals, billing software and energy management systems.
- Maintaining accurate customer, meter and site information.
- Communicating professionally with customers, suppliers, contractors and industry partners by phone and email.
- Preparing correspondence, reports, documentation and other business records.
- Supporting the wider NES team with projects and day‑to‑day operations.
- Assisting in other areas of the business, including administration, finance and marketing, as required.
As your knowledge and experience develop, there will also be opportunities to learn more specialised areas, including MSATS, energy market processes, metering project management, electricity pricing, tendering and the coordination of more complex projects.
Who would suit this role?
We're not necessarily looking for the person with the longest resume or the most qualifications.
We're looking for someone with the right attitude,
natural ability and a genuine desire to learn and become exceptional at what they do.
You might be a university or TAFE graduate, someone with experience in project administration or business operations, an electrician looking to transition into the commercial side of the energy industry, or someone early in their career who's ready for an opportunity with genuine scope to learn, develop and progress.
You don't need to tick every box, but we'd love to hear from you if you:
- Are naturally organised, methodical and enjoy keeping things on track.
- Have a logical mind and enjoy working through problems and finding solutions.
- Are comfortable working with numbers, spreadsheets, pricing and detailed information.
- A good working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Outlook and Word is important.
- Have excellent attention to detail and take pride in producing accurate work.
- Are confident communicating both verbally and in writing.
- Can manage several tasks or projects at once without losing track of important details.
- Take initiative, think ahead and don't always need to be told what to do next.
- Are comfortable asking questions, taking feedback and learning from experienced colleagues.
- Are genuinely curious about how businesses, systems and processes operate.
- Enjoy working as part of a team but can also work independently and take responsibility for your own tasks.
- Have a strong work ethic, a positive attitude and the determination to keep developing your skills.
You don't need previous experience in electricity metering, embedded networks or the energy industry. While any relevant experience would certainly be welcomed, we're happy to train the right person.
You also don't need to be an engineer, electrician, IT specialist or accountant.
We're looking for someone who enjoys coordinating projects, understanding information, dealing with people, solving problems and learning how the different parts of a business come together.
A genuine opportunity to grow
One of the most valuable aspects of this position is the opportunity to learn directly from someone who has developed extensive, specialised knowledge of the Australian energy industry over many years.
You’ll start by assisting, observing, asking questions and becoming familiar with how our projects and business operations work.
As you become more confident, you’ll be encouraged to take ownership of tasks, manage different aspects of projects and gradually develop greater independence.
For someone with genuine ambition, strong ability and a willingness to put in the effort, there is the potential to progress into more senior project coordination, operational and management responsibilities over time.
We’re looking for someone who sees this as an opportunity to build a long‑term career, rather than simply their next job.
