Job Description

Take the next step in your engineering career on one of Sydney's most significant data centre projects. At Built, you'll play a key role in delivering complex, technically challenging work while being supported by experienced project leaders who will help you grow into a senior engineering position.

The Opportunity

As a Project Engineer, you'll be part of the team delivering our major data centre project at Marsden Park. Working closely with project, design, commercial and site teams, you'll help coordinate the technical and operational aspects of delivery, ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently and to the highest standards.

In this role you will:

- Drive engineering coordination to ensure construction activities align with design intent, program objectives and project milestones
- Manage technical documentation, RFIs, shop drawings and approvals to keep work fronts progressing
- Partner with consultants, subcontractors and suppliers to resolve design and construction challenges
- Support procurement activities, material lead times and subcontractor coordination across key project packages
- Champion quality, safety and continuous improvement while helping mentor emerging engineers and graduates

Success in this role will come from your ability to anticipate issues, build strong relationships and maintain momentum across multiple project interfaces in a fast-paced environment.

What We Are Looking For

We're looking for a Project Engineer who enjoys solving complex problems, takes ownership and wants to be part of delivering industry-leading projects.

You will bring:

- Relevant qualifications in Civil Engineering, Construction Management or a related discipline
- Experience delivering large-scale commercial, industrial, mission-critical or complex building projects
- Strong understanding of construction methodology, buildability, quality systems and engineering documentation
- Confidence working with consultants, subcontractors and project stakeholders to achieve outcomes
- Well-developed planning, communication and coordination skills with a proactive approach to problem solving
- A genuine desire to learn, contribute and grow your career within a high-performing project team

Full-time | Sydney / Melbourne / Perth | Office-Based / On-Site During Construction

About Us

At JET Charge, our mission is clear – to provide EV charging at no cost, with no emissions. We’re building Australia’s electrified future by developing the infrastructure and technology that make clean transport accessible to everyone. Through innovation in charging, grid, and energy management systems, we’re breaking down barriers to electrification and driving a sustainable, equitable, and Australian-made transition.

The Role

The Project Engineer owns the engineering and design outcome on major, high-voltage connected EV charging projects, from concept and detailed design through procurement, construction, energisation and handover.

On some projects you will produce the design yourself. On others you will coordinate consulting engineers and external design houses who produce it. Both are part of the job,

and in both cases the design is yours to get right.

You will work across the disciplines these projects depend on: high-voltage and low-voltage electrical, civil and structural, communications, and battery storage and solar where they are in scope. You will chair the design coordination meetings, manage the RFI register, specify the major equipment JET Charge buys and issues to contractors, and steer the design towards the best value outcome across design and construction.

You will work alongside the Project Manager and the delivery team, and be the technical point of contact for the client, network operators, contractors and independent verification engineers.

This role suits an electrical engineer with solid infrastructure design experience who wants to own the design of technically demanding projects from start to finish.

Key Responsibilities Design Ownership & Compliance

- Deliver electrical designs for EV charging infrastructure, covering AC and DC low-voltage distribution, high-voltage connections, transformers and protection systems, that comply with AS/NZS standards and applicable codes.
- Meet design stage target dates, and prepare designs so they pass independent third-party verification first time, without any non-compliances identified during the review process.
- Find and resolve engineering risks and non-compliances at the design stage, before they reach site.

Design Management & Coordination

- Own the end-to-end design across high-voltage, low-voltage, civil/structural, battery storage and solar scopes, whether designing directly or coordinating consulting engineers and external design houses.
- Chair and minute design coordination meetings with all relevant parties, and track actions through to close.
- Manage RFI registers and respond to RFIs promptly so the project is not held up.
- Steer the design towards value management, considering costs across both design and construction.

Equipment Specification

- Own the specifications for equipment JET Charge procures and free‑issues to contractors, including high-voltage and low-voltage switchboards, transformers, kiosks and cable.
- Issue specifications in time to meet procurement lead times.

Safety in Design

- Share responsibility for HAZOP and Safety in Design reviews.
- Ensure designs and installations meet health, safety and environmental requirements.
- Provide engineering input to bids and tenders, including technical scoping, estimating support, methodology and risk identification.
- Make sure the engineering assumptions in a bid are sound, clearly documented and carry through into delivery.

Documentation & Reporting

- Produce accurate, complete engineering designs, specifications and project reports, on time.
- Control schedule and cost on your engineering scope, and flag risks before they become overruns.

Stakeholder Engagement

- Build effective working relationships with network operators, contractors, consultants and independent verification engineers.
- Explain technical issues in plain language to clients and non-engineering colleagues, and confirm key decisions in writing.

Knowledge & Improvement

- Contribute standards, templates, calculation tools and lessons learned so the wider team benefits beyond a single project.

KPIs

- No safety incidents
- Engineering scope delivered on time and within budget

About You

You are an electrical engineer who is comfortable both designing and managing others who are doing it. You understand how high-voltage, low-voltage and civil scopes fit together on a construction project, and you stay with a technical problem until it is resolved.

We’re looking for someone who can bring most of the following:

- A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering
- 6+ years in electrical infrastructure design
- Experience on EV charging projects is a plusExperience with multidisciplinary projects that require coordination with other services including but are not only limited to hydraulic, fire, HV, LV, civil, structural, architectural and control systems
- Experience coordinating consulting engineers or external design houses
- A strong working knowledge of Australian and New Zealand standards and regulatory requirements
- Proficiency with electrical design software such as PowerCAD, CablePro and CAD packages
- The ability to manage multiple projects at once without losing attention to detail
- Clear, professional communication with clients, contractors and internal teams
- Membership of Engineers Australia, with CPEng achieved or actively in progressExperience dealing with network operators on grid connections will be highly regarded.

Our Commitments to You

At JET Charge, we believe our culture is our advantage – diverse, determined and curious. We invest in our people and provide:
