About Mventech Group

Mventech Group is a dynamic and growing mining and resources consulting firm headquartered in Centurion, Gauteng. We partner with clients across project sites to deliver innovative, design-led, and technically rigorous consulting solutions. Our culture is built on expertise, integrity, and a commitment to developing the next generation of industry professionals. At Mventech, we live our tagline: Innovate · Design · Consult.

Mventech Australia extends the Group’s capability to the Australian mining sector from offices in Brisbane, Queensland, and Perth, Western Australia. The team provides engineering services, advisory services, project management, and product development to mining clients, supported by the Group’s specialised research and development capability (more than 40 professional publications), a track record on projects valued at more than $3 billion, and experience across base metals, precious metals, and coal on four continents.

The Opportunity

As Lead Estimator, you will own the cost basis that Mventech Australia’s mining clients rely on to make capital investment decisions, from scoping studies through feasibility and into execution. You will set the estimating standards for the Australian business, lead multidisciplinary estimate teams across Australia and the Group’s South African engineering hub, and serve as the Lead Estimator responsible for quality estimates on client engagements.

Key Responsibilities

- Lead the preparation of capital and operating cost estimates for mining, materials handling, mine ventilation, and minerals processing projects from concept through prefeasibility, feasibility, and execution, aligned to the Association for the Advancement of Cost Engineering (AACE) International estimate classification system and client specific guidelines.
- Establish and maintain Mventech Australia’s estimating methodology, standards, templates, and cost database so that every estimate is consistent, auditable, and defensible.
- Set up project/study specific project estimate guidelines to align on the estimate plan with clients.
- Issue request for information to obtain the required information from clients to complete estimates.
- Understand and use mine designs and schedules (typically Deswik) to populate mining cost model building blocks (i.e. cost build up per meter of development).
- Coordinate inputs from mining, civil and structural, mechanical, electrical,

and process engineering teams across Australia and South Africa to deliver integrated estimates CAPEX and OPEX) supported by a clear basis of estimate.
- Build direct and indirect cost models that reflect Australian market conditions, including enterprise agreement and modern award labour rates, fly-in fly-out (FIFO) logistics, remote-site productivity, and regional supply chain constraints.
- Lead quantitative risk and contingency analysis, and present cost ranges, sensitivities, and escalation forecasts that give clients a sound basis for investment decisions.
- Own client relationships on estimating scope, and present and defend estimates confidently in study reviews, independent peer reviews, and investment committee forums.
- Benchmark estimates against historical project data and industry norms, and lead estimate reviews that close scope gaps and identify value engineering opportunities.
- Prepare control estimates and assess contractor and vendor pricing to support tender evaluation, contracting strategy, and procurement packaging.
- Grow Mventech’s estimating offering in the Australian market by scoping services, pricing proposals, and representing the capability to prospective clients.
- Mentor and develop estimators and cost engineers to build a capable team that supports the growth of Mventech Australia.

Minimum Requirements

You must have:

- Bachelor’s degree in quantity surveying, mining, engineering, construction management, or a related discipline.
- A minimum of 12 years of capital cost estimating experience, including at least five years leading estimates for mining, minerals processing, or heavy industrial projects.
- Demonstrated experience preparing estimates across multiple study phases (AACE Class 5 to Class 2) for Australian mining or resources clients.
- Working knowledge of Australian construction labour markets, industrial relations frameworks, and remote-site cost drivers.
- Unrestricted right to work in Australia.

It would advantage you to have:

- AACE certification, such as Certified Estimating Professional (CEP)

or Certified Cost Qualified (CCP), or membership of the Australian Cost Engineering Society
- Membership of the Australasian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy (AusIMM).
- Experience with quantitative risk analysis tools, such as @RISK or Primavera Risk Analysis
- Experience estimating underground mining infrastructure, including mine ventilation and cooling systems.
- Exposure to EPCM delivery models, owner’s team roles, or independent estimate reviews.
- Experience working with engineering teams across multiple countries and time zones.

Competencies and Attributes

- Estimating rigour: Builds transparent, traceable estimates with clearly documented assumptions, exclusions, and a robust basis of estimate.
- Commercial judgement: Translates technical scope into credible cost outcomes and recognises where cost risk and opportunity sit.
- Multidisciplinary coordination: Aligns inputs from several engineering disciplines and geographies into one coherent estimate under study deadlines.
- Client influence: Communicates cost outcomes clearly and defends estimates with authority before clients, reviewers, and investment decision-makers.
- Team leadership: Sets clear standards, reviews the work of others constructively, and develops estimating capability within the team.
- Data-driven improvement: Uses historical data, benchmarking, and digital tools to improve estimate accuracy over time.

Why Join Mventech Group?

At Mventech Group, you will work alongside experienced engineers and consultants on complex, high-impact projects across the mining and resources sector. We invest in our people through structured mentorship, exposure to multidisciplinary EPCM (engineering, procurement, and construction management) work, and clear pathways for professional registration and career progression.

As a growing firm, we offer the agility and visibility of a smaller practice combined with the calibre of projects typically associated with major consultancies. You will contribute directly to decisions that shape project outcomes, build close working relationships with clients, and see the tangible impact of your work on sites across Australia and beyond.

We are committed to technical excellence, integrity, and continuous learning. If you want to grow your career while helping to shape the future of mining and resources consulting, we would like to hear from you. Innovate · Design · Consult.
