Endeavour Energy (NSW)

Sydney

There’s never been a better time to be in energy. And there’s never been a more exciting time to be at Endeavour Energy.

More than 2.7 million people across New South Wales rely on us every day for the supply of protected and reliable power to their homes and businesses. We employ more than 1,700 people across our catchment, making us one of the largest employers in Sydney’s Greater West.

To work with us in this role, you don’t need to have any energy experience. We need talented people who are ready for challenge and growth and value a sense of care and belonging. Why? Because our vision is to lead the way with smarter energy solutions. Play your part in helping us to put the customer first and transition to a cleaner, more sustainable energy future for us all.

About The Role

As our Project Cost Controller, you’ll play an key role in maintaining the financial integrity of our capital portfolio, providing the accurate and reliable financial information our EPMO and leaders need to make informed decisions.

While strong financial capability is important, how you work with others will be just as critical to your success. We’re looking for someone who is genuinely collaborative, enjoys being part of a team and is willing to roll up their sleeves and help wherever needed. Priorities can shift, deadlines can be tight, and there will be times when the broader team needs everyone to pitch in.

You’ll be comfortable taking ownership of your responsibilities while recognising that great outcomes are achieved together. Whether that means supporting a colleague, helping resolve an unexpected issue or stepping outside your usual day-to-day activities when the team needs an extra pair of hands, you’ll bring a flexible, team-first approach.

What You’ll Be Doing

- Consolidate financial data across projects and programs to provide a monthly portfolio view of actuals, budgets and forecasts.

- Provide financial assurance at key governance gates, validating cost estimates and investment cases before funding is released.
- Ensure compliance with capitalisation policies and the accurate classification of CAPEX and OPEX.
- Review and challenge project forecasts, investigate material variances and support corrective action to manage financial risk.
- Control the release of approved project funding and track expenditure against approved cost codes.
- Work collaboratively with benefit realisation leads to validate financial benefits identified in business cases.
- Manage portfolio-level contingency funds and assess drawdown requests.
- Reconcile financial information across project management and corporate finance systems.
- Prepare portfolio financial information and investment evidence for regulatory submissions and external audits.
- Actively support colleagues across the EPMO, sharing knowledge, solving problems together and pitching in with broader team priorities when required.

About You You’ll bring strong financial and analytical capability, but equally importantly, you are collaborative, approachable and prepared to help. You understand that being part of a high-performing team sometimes means stepping outside your immediate responsibilities, particularly during busy periods or when priorities change. You’ll also be confident constructively challenging assumptions and forecasts. You can hold people to account while maintaining positive working relationships with project managers, engineers,

finance colleagues and other stakeholders.

Ideally, You’ll Bring

- More than 4 years’

experience in financial control, accounting or FP&A; within a large, capital-intensive organisation.
- A Bachelor’s Degree in Commerce, Accounting, Finance or a related discipline.
- CPA, CA, ACCA or an equivalent professional accounting qualification is preferred.
- Strong knowledge of project accounting principles, including Earned Value Management (EVM) and Work in Progress (WIP).
- An understanding of capitalisation principles and relevant financial or regulatory requirements.
- Strong analytical capability and the confidence to identify and challenge inconsistencies or unrealistic forecasts.
- Experience with financial and portfolio management systems such as SAP and Copperleaf, or comparable platforms.
- Advanced Excel and financial modelling capability.
- The ability to explain complex financial information clearly to non-financial stakeholders.
- A genuine team-first mindset, with the flexibility and willingness to step in, support others and help get the job done.

Above all, we’re looking for a team player. Someone who takes pride in their own work but is equally invested in the success of their colleagues and the wider team.
