ENGEO is growing and we’re looking for a Cadet or Junior Laboratory Technician to join us!
This isn't your typical lab setting. We don't have lab coats & white cleanrooms – we operate in an open warehouse and on construction sites, with high vis jackets, buckets of soil, and steel toe boots.
We’re proud of the way we train and support our people, and this role is all about learning the ropes, getting hands‑on experience, and developing into a fully competent laboratory technician.
About the role
This is an entry‑level opportunity for someone looking to start their career in the geotechnical & construction materials testing industry. It's important to note that this is a physical role including heavy lifting and manual field work activity.
You'll join a small, friendly team, who are there to help you across a wide range of laboratory and field activities:
- Assisting with sampling and laboratory testing of soils, aggregates, and other construction materials
- Supporting field investigation for engineering projects
- Logging and labelling soil and rock samples and assisting with field records
- Working alongside senior technicians and project teams to learn correct testing methods and safe work practices
- Progressively building competency across laboratory test methods in line with the NATA scope of accreditation
- Helping with general laboratory duties such as equipment maintenance and record keeping
This is a full-time permanent role and a real career opportunity – with structured support, mentoring, and clear development milestones.
About you
We’re open‑minded about background and experience, and encourage applications from:
- High school or university graduates with an interest in science, construction and hands‑on technical work
- Candidates who already hold a Certificate III or IV in Laboratory Skills, or are keen to work towards one
Some attributes we're looking for:
- A positive attitude and willingness to learn
- Physical fitness - you'll need to be able to lift 20 kg samples
- Good attention to detail and a practical, hands‑on approach
- Clear verbal and written communication skills
- An interest in laboratory, field testing and quality systems
- A valid driver's licence
What's in it for you?
Clear Career Progression
At ENGEO, cadet technicians quickly develop strong foundations through our hands‑on support. In this role, you’ll:
- Work towards Certificate III and/or IV qualifications
- Receive ongoing training from experienced laboratory staff
- Progress toward competency across a broad range of laboratory and field tests
- Build a explicit pathway from cadet and beyond
We invest in people who want to grow with us. We take pride in developing long‑term careers, not just filling roles.
ENGEO is proud to provide competitive remuneration, as well as a host of benefits:
- A fantastic employee share ownership scheme
- Annual discretionary bonus
- Health insurance
- Wellbeing allowance
- Your birthday off
- Extensive learning, training, & development support
- Career advancement opportunities
