Who’s hiring?
Spendless Shoes is a familiar name across Australia, helping customers find footwear for the whole family. With a national retail network and large-scale operations, there’s plenty happening behind the scenes to keep the business moving.
Reporting to the Group Chief Financial Officer, you’ll oversee and take accountability for day-to-day finance operations, support the financial performance of the business and help your team deliver accurate, timely work.
It’s an opportunity to bring your technical knowledge and people leadership together, with scope to improve processes and make a practical contribution to a well-known business.
So, what’s the role?
This is a hands-on Finance Manager position with accountability for the accuracy, integrity and timely delivery of Spendless Shoes’ financial accounts.
You’ll oversee accounting operations, manage cash flow and forecasting, and ensure reporting and statutory obligations are met. Working closely with the Group CFO, you’ll investigate discrepancies and provide clear visibility of the business’s financial position.
Leading the team is equally important. You’ll set clear expectations, provide guidance and mentoring, and ensure your team has the direction and support to deliver. You’ll be comfortable getting involved, resolving issues and taking responsibility for the quality of the function’s work.
A typical week might see you:
- Overseeing day-to-day accounting operations, including revenue and cost allocations
- Leading month-end close and ensuring the accuracy of the general ledger and balance sheet reconciliations
- Maintaining cash forecasts and working closely with the Group CFO to monitor the daily cash position
- Leading and supporting a team of four, managing priorities and reviewing work
- Preparing and lodging BAS and other ATO compliance statements, and coordinating annual FBT information
- Developing the annual budget and supporting effective cost control
- Maintaining the asset register and reviewing financial information for accuracy and completeness
- Overseeing financial systems, coordinating with external providers and supporting system upgrades
- Identifying opportunities to improve processes, increase efficiency and reduce costs.
Who are you?
You’re a technically capable finance skilled who enjoys taking
responsibility for an accounting function and helping a team perform at its best.
You’ve managed finance within a business with significant annual revenue and understand the accounting complexity, transaction volumes and reporting expectations that come with that scale. You can oversee the wider function while staying close enough to the detail to recognise when something needs further investigation.
Your approach to leadership matters just as much as your accounting knowledge. You’re approachable, communicate clearly and build productive working relationships.
You know how to set expectations and hold people accountable while providing the guidance they need to succeed.
You’ll bring:
- CA or CPA qualifications
- Previous experience as a Finance Manager or in a comparable role within a large organisation with significant annual revenue
- Thorough knowledge of financial accounting, month-end reporting, budgeting, cash flow management and cost control
- Experience leading and developing a finance team
- A hands-on approach to investigating accounting issues and providing practical technical guidance
- Commercial awareness and confidence communicating financial information to senior stakeholders
- Knowledge of relevant financial regulations and statutory obligations
- Confidence using financial systems, with an interest in improving processes and reporting
- Attention to detail and the ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines.
What’s in it for you?
- A permanent leadership role with Spendless Shoes, a well-known name in Australian retail
- Ownership of the accounting function, reporting directly to the Group CFO
- The opportunity to lead, mentor and develop a team of four
- Scope to improve financial processes, systems and ways of working
- A role that brings together technical accounting, commercial input and people leadership.
