We are looking for a Senior Data Engineer to join a Melbourne-based organisation supporting a critical data platform program.
Initial 3 month contract, so we are ideally looking for someone who can start immediately.
This is a hands-on, behind-the-scenes data engineering role. You'll build and run the pipelines that bring data in, shape it, and make it reliable for the teams that depend on it - with real depth expected in the higher transformation and data modelling layers in Snowflake, not just raw ingestion.
Key responsibilities
- Build and maintain data ingestion pipelines from source systems into Snowflake
- Develop, test and document dbt models that turn raw data into clean, well-modelled, business-ready datasets
- Build, schedule and monitor workflows in Airflow
- Keep pipelines reliable, performant and cost-efficient in Snowflake
- Troubleshoot data issues and fix them at the source
- Work closely with fellow engineers and leads to deliver against program priorities
Must have
- Strong commercial experience with Snowflake, including optimising the higher data transformation layers
- Strong commercial experience with dbt (models, tests, macros, incremental builds)
- Solid experience building and running Airflow DAGs in production
- Solid data modelling experience (dimensional modelling, SCD patterns or similar) - comfortable owning the transformation layer, not just ingestion
- Proven data ingestion and transformation experience across multiple source systems
- Solid SQL and Python
- Comfortable working independently and getting productive quickly on a short engagement
