About the Role

Join Swinburne Law School and be part of a collaborative academic community that values personalised education, creative teaching and research with real-world impact.

As a Lecturer, Law, you’ll deliver engaging lectures, tutorials and workshops across undergraduate and postgraduate programs that help students connect legal theory with real-world practice. You’ll contribute to curriculum development and program innovation, using contemporary teaching approaches to create a personalised and supportive learning experience.

You’ll also play an active role in Swinburne’s research culture, producing high-quality publications, contributing to research collaborations, and seeking research funding. Alongside your teaching and research, you’ll support and mentor students, contribute to School activities and build strong connections with government, business, communities and the legal profession, both in Australia and internationally.

Swinburne Law School is committed to high-quality, personalised education and a vibrant research environment, with opportunities for international collaboration, competitive grants and research that makes a difference.

If you’re passionate about legal education, committed to research excellence and excited by the opportunity to make a meaningful contribution to the legal profession, we’d love to hear from you.

About You

You’re an enthusiastic and collaborative legal academic who brings a commitment to excellent teaching, meaningful research and strong industry connections. You enjoy finding innovative ways to engage students, to work with colleagues to improve learning outcomes, and to contribute to a supportive academic community.

You’re confident coordinating subjects and managing associated academic responsibilities. You’re able to teach in one or more of the Priestley 11 prescribed areas of knowledge. Experience in public law, procedural law, family law or mediation and arbitration would be a bonus.
- You’re excited by the opportunity to make learning engaging and relevant, using innovative teaching approaches such as blended and online learning, case studies, role-plays and simulations to bring legal concepts to life.
- You’re committed to producing meaningful research that contributes to your discipline. You bring experience in legal research methods and a track record of publishing in quality academic journals. Swinburne is a University of Technology, so a research agenda with a technology slant is an advantage.
- You’re a confident communicator who can connect with a diverse range of people, from students and academic colleagues to industry partners and other external stakeholders.
- You’ll thrive in a collaborative environment, enjoy sharing ideas and working towards common goals, and can help coordinate and support a teaching team to deliver an outstanding student experience.

- You’re keen to grow your research impact and bring the potential to build the capability to attract external funding or to contribute to funded research projects.
- You’ll value the connection between legal education and professional practice, building relationships with relevant organisations, industries and the legal profession.

Qualifications

- A teaching qualification and/or membership of an appropriate professional body would be advantageous.
