About the role
Legal Money Changer Pty Ltd is seeking a hands-on Compliance Officer to support the day-to-day compliance operations of our money-exchange business.
Reporting to the Head of Risk & Compliance and working closely with the Senior Compliance Officer, you will help deliver our customer due diligence, onboarding, transaction-monitoring, reporting and record-keeping activities. You will review and validate the outputs of automated workflows, identify exceptions and escalate higher-risk or unusual matters to senior colleagues.
This is an operational role suited to someone with a sound grounding in KYC and AML/CTF compliance, strong attention to detail, and an interest in using technology to improve compliance processes.
Key responsibilitiesCustomer due diligence and onboarding
- Complete recent-customer KYC and onboarding checks in line with company procedures and applicable requirements.
- Conduct ongoing customer due diligence and support remediation of existing customer files.
- Collect, verify and assess customer identification, ownership and other relevant information.
- Identify missing, inconsistent or higher-risk information and refer cases for further review.
AML/CTF, sanctions and transaction monitoring
- Conduct sanctions and PEP screening, and review transaction-monitoring and fraud alerts.
- Triage alerts, document findings and escalate potentially suspicious or higher-risk activity.
- Support the preparation and, where authorised, submission of applicable reports to AUSTRAC, including IFTI reports where relevant to the business’s activities.
- Assist with suspicious matter reporting processes and maintain clear records of decisions and actions.
Compliance operations and record-keeping
- Maintain accurate customer, transaction, compliance and audit records.
- Support the implementation and ongoing maintenance of the company’s AML/CTF policies, procedures and controls.
- Assist with compliance reviews, audits, regulatory requests and remediation activities as directed.
- Help ensure compliance information is handled securely and in accordance with applicable privacy and data-protection requirements.
Automation and process improvement
- Use automated onboarding, customer due diligence and monitoring workflows as part of daily work.
- Review and validate automated outputs rather than simply accepting them.
- Record exceptions, false positives and edge cases, and share feedback to help improve the workflows.
- Participate in training and help embed new tools and processes across the team.
Teamwork and escalation
- Escalate complex, unusual or higher-risk matters to the Senior Manager or Head of Risk & Compliance.
- Provide operational cover across key compliance tasks to support continuity.
- Communicate clearly with colleagues and relevant teams across the business.
About you
You will bring
- Experience in KYC, customer due diligence, AML/CTF, transaction monitoring or a related compliance role.
- A strong eye for detail and the ability to assess information carefully.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills.
- Good organisation and the ability to manage routine tasks while recognising when to escalate an issue.
- Confidence using digital systems and willingness to work with automated tools.
- A responsible approach to handling confidential customer and business information.
Desirable: Experience in money exchange, remittance, financial services or another regulated business; familiarity with AUSTRAC reporting and AML/CTF obligations.
